Things “Got Weird” At Casa Cipriani for Kate Hudson’s “Glorious” Album Sneak Peek
Mere days before her “Glorious” album release, Kate Hudson gave an intimate concert at Casa Cipriani’s exclusive Jazz Café.
“It’s just been blissful and I’m so happy to do this for my friends and family. Thanks for coming.”
Wearing Pasquale Bruni jewels and a sheer black Donna Karan dress reminiscent of Stevie Nicks’ Rumors cover, Hudson had her A-list audience swooning. Bonnie Raitt, Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones, and Linda Ronstadt made appearances–lyrically speaking. Hudson’s rockstar vocals easily traversed the gravelly lows and melodic highs of each chosen cover.
The actor proved her singing chops with every track on her setlist. Guests were transported as she included a few songs from her debut album, which she co-wrote with Linda Perry and her fiancé, musician Danny Fujikawa.
“We’re going to get really weird,” said Hudson. “But I think you’re going to really like it.”
True to rockstar form, she took a sip of her paper plane cocktail on stage before jumping into a jazzy number. A particular jumpy version of Tom Petty’s “Roll Another Joint” had guests clapping in unison before Hudson encored with Til Tuesday’s “Voices Carry.”
Amongst the crowd sat Leonardo DiCaprio, jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer, Zach Braff, and more swaying to Hudson’s ethereal performance.
Midshow, one heartfelt moment had Hudson and the crowd teary-eyed. She sang “Live Forever,” which dropped with a music video interwoven with home videos of her son Ryder Robinson, whom she shares with ex-husband and lead singer of The Black Crowes Chris Robinson.
“I wrote this for my son. It’s actually the first time I sang it to him.” Ryder could be seen in the crowd as he corrected his mother that he heard her sing it before. A smiling Hudson responded, “Ok, second time.”
From band-aid to band lead, Hudson’s breakout character Penny Lane from Almost Famous said it best—this time with a twist.
“I always tell the girls, never take it seriously, if ya never take it seriously, ya never get hurt, ya never get hurt, ya always have fun, and if you ever get lonely, just put out an album and play for your friends.”
Hudson’s album “Glorious” is available for pre-order and set to release on May 17.
