Why This Year Is Kristen Stewart’s Fashion Rising
Happy Birthday, Kristen Stewart! The actor, who turns 34 today, has always been a real fashion girl, proving time and time again that she can nail a red carpet. While she loves a Chanel tweed suit moment (she is a longtime face of the label, after all), recently, Stewart’s personal style has taken an interesting pivot into risk-taking territory. 2024 is shaping up to be the year that Stewart has found her style stride, cultivating her own distinctive sensibility. Call it her fashion rising.
Styled by Tara Swennen, Stewart’s wardrobe as of late has revolved around subverting classic tailoring. There’s also been a clear emphasis on showing skin—a nod to Love Lies Bleeding, the film Stewart is currently promoting, which explores bodybuilding culture. “When we were thinking of looks, we were leaning into the idea of a playfulness with a romantic, yet empowering edge, but unapologetically sexy at the same time,” Swennen recently told Vogue.
At the Love Lies Bleeding premiere in Los Angeles, Stewart wore a black, high-cut Bettter bodysuit that mimicked a wrestling singlet. It was unexpectedly sexy. Out in New York, she also reinvented the black suit in a leather Brunello Cucinelli blazer styled with a bra, mini skirt, and garter-style tights.
Even when Stewart has stuck to more traditional, reserved looks, she’s made sure to update them a bit. To promote the film in Berlin, the star wore Chanel’s white tweed skirt suit—the bottom half came with a sheer overlay layered overtop white spandex-style tights. Unexpected, yet chic! For a talk show appearance in New York, Stewart sported a beaded Monot halter top, complete with a floor-length skirt; It was a fresh take on a classic LBD.
All of this is to say—Stewart is totally killing her fashion game this year. You have to admire when a star rebukes trends and marches to the beat of their own fashion drum. It takes a lot of confidence to step out exposed briefs or lingerie-style hosiery in broad daylight, and Stewart has been pulling it off in spades. More of this energy, please!
