Maybe It’s… a Miley Cyrus x Maybelline Launch Party! Inside Her Lipstick-Filled Bar Marmont Soirée
“I’ve been livin’ at the Chateau,” Miley Cyrus famously repeats in her 2020 hit Plastic Hearts. Indeed, the storied Sunset Boulevard establishment has become something of a second home to the Grammy-winning star over the years. “I do performances in the lobby, and I’ve done lots of photo shoots here,” Cyrus told Vogue ahead of co-hosting a cocktail party with Maybelline. “I wanted to bring people to a place that feels intimate to me.” At Bar Marmont, a stone’s throw away from the hotel, Cyrus, Maybelline s new global face, was the toast of the town.
The fete, which served to unveil the cosmetic line s new moisturizing Serum Lipstick, was packed. By 8 p.m., an hour after the official kick-off, the bar was jammed with guests patiently awaiting Cyrus s arrival. Around the half-hour mark, the Hannah Montana alum emerged, debuting the “Maybe It’s…” lip shade on her pout. “You truly can’t have Maybelline without Miley, it’s kind of in the name,” she told the lively crowd.
As it turns out, this partnership is a full-circle moment for Cyrus, who has fond memories of experimenting with Maybelline products as a tween. “My mother, who s sitting over there, was very particular about letting me use mascara,” she told Vogue, as Tish Cyrus settled into the party nearby. “I finally got a Maybelline one when I was about 12, and I had a very unique way of applying it.” At the time, Cyrus wasn’t allowed to wear eyeliner either. Alas, her newly-acquired Maybelline wand allowed her to skirt the rules slightly. “I would apply the mascara in a diagonal to give the effect of a cat-eye,” she recalled mischievously.
Outfitted in a sleek black blazer and slouchy trousers by Mugler, Cyrus set the tone for the night: edgy, cool, and seriously glamorous. Oozing Old Hollywood, Bar Marmont was enlivened with floral arrangements in various shades of red, as well as a bounty of grapes, mirroring the lipstick’s expansive color range.
After making her highly-anticipated entrance, the woman of the hour let her hair down, dancing behind the DJ booth with her friend, DJ Alex Chapman. Promising “plenty of Britney,” she didn t disappoint. She also reimagined the iconic Maybelline jingle in her signature husky voice, which blasted from the speakers.
As the music was bumping, partygoers paused to sip on refreshing beverages—The Miley Mocktail, Pucker Up Paloma, Satin Kiss Spritz, and Maybe It’s Espresso—and dig into passed bites of caviar chips, lobster salad, and French fries. Later in the evening, a selection of sweet treats, including chocolate chip cookies and macaroons, materialized.
In one corner of the lounge was a lipstick engraving station, where guests lined up to personalize their preferred color. Another area even offered lipology, with ‘celebrity kiss reader’ Dr. Miranda analyzing after attendees smooched on a sheet of paper. A beauty bash s prerequisite Glambot was also set up, overseen by director Cole Walliser.
The party drew in celebrity hairstylist Laura Polko, rugby player Ilona Maher, and Cyrus’ older sister Brandi, who could be seen mingling with her mom in a private section of the lounge. Model sisters Brooks and Sarah Jane Nader had coordinated their oversized fur jackets for the occasion too.
Heading off into the night, attendees received a pouch of lipsticks and Cyrus’ Something Beautiful vinyl to take with them. Meanwhile, outside at the valet, hotel staff loaded Crosley record players into the trunks of cars too. Maybe…the perfect party keepsake.
