No Doubt Is Back! And We’re Ready For Their Eclectic Stage Style

This is not a drill. This week, to the delight of ’90s enthusiasts everywhere, No Doubt announced a reunion at Coachella in April. Joining headliners Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat, and Tyler, the Creator, the band—comprised of Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal, Adrian Young, and Tom Dumont—will play their first live concert in nine years. “We’ll see you in the desert,” they teased on their social media account. Just think of the hits we’re about to be graced with. “Hella Good!” “Don’t Speak!” My nineties heart simply can’t take it.
Even better, however, is the stage fashions that No Doubt will undoubtedly resurrect. The group, after all, is the epitome of eccentric band style. Since forming in the late 1980s, and released their first self-titled album in 1992, the foursome has consistently embodied cool youth culture—pulling off everything from crop tops and baggy jeans, to dressed-down suits and feathered boas. In the world of No Doubt, nothing is off limits.
Stefani became an style during the band s heyday, dominating the 1990s and early aughts with her cool rocker-chick outfits. “I pretty much only wore tank tops,” Stefani told Vogue a few years back of her early No Doubt days. “I just think they look cool. I had to be a little tomboy with a little glamour.” Taking a trip down fashion memory lane, Vogue unearthed a few of her tank top moments, which include pairings with satin leopard pants, skater cargos, and skin-tight plaid trousers.
Even today Stefani s lead-singer vibe remains referential, perhaps because she didn’t have a stylist during No Doubt s ascent. The looks felt effortless—authentic to her, and not falling victim to the trends of the time period. Ditto for Tony, Adrian, and Tom, too; whether they were in cheeky graphic tees or shirts and ties, all of their punky outfits felt like they were picked out that very morning. They were spontaneous and fun.
There’s something very refreshing about the prospect of No Doubt resurfacing their distinct aesthetic in 2024. In a crowded celebrity arena where every group has a stylist or exclusive brand deal today, here’s to hoping that the band will bring some of that original fashion chaos and experimentation back into the fray. To which we say, Coachella can’t come soon enough.
