Leila Imani, meanwhile, wanted to find a perfect outfit for her upcoming birthday celebration. “It’s my 21st birthday next weekend, and I always wear something red on my birthday,” says Imani. “I did it two years in a row accidentally, and now I made it a thing.”

Inside, some notable names were able to secure their must-haves. Johnny Valencia, the owner of Pechuga Vintage and who also donated items to the sale, secured a hot item. “I beelined straight to the ‘Dior Not War’ tank top, owned by Cindy Crawford,” says Valencia. Celebrity stylist Maeve Reilly zeroed in on a more sentimental find—a Chanel surf bag. “It’s in the same print of a t-shirt that I lost in the [Los Angeles] fire,” says Reilly. “It feels like a new but old way to honor a piece that I recently lost.”

While many of the well-clad shoppers were eagle-eyed in terms of their wants at the sale, others were simply happy to be a part of the excitement and buzz of the day, letting whatever the vintage gods wanted to bestow on them come. “I want to see all of the stories of the different pieces,” says Tiffany Ng, a culture writer, while in line. Her friend Dakota Stevens, a Broadway and celebrity costumer, also shared the same sentiment: “I’m excited to get my hands on the pieces and see how things are constructed. I love that they are all pieces that have stories attached to them.”
