The Line at the Vogue Vintage Market Was a Serious Street Style Scene

Around 10 a.m. yesterday morning, a long queue had already formed around the block in New York’s buzzing SoHo shopping neighborhood. “What is this line for?” intrigued New Yorkers asked as they walked by—afraid they were missing out on something good. Dedicated shoppers had arrived early (some as early as midnight) to claim their spot in line for the Vogue Vintage Market—a one-of-a-kind sale hosted by Vogue and Gigi Hadid, where fashion lovers had the opportunity to peruse and purchase rare designer finds (many of which were sourced from eBay) at discounted prices. (Better yet, it was for a good cause, too: 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale benefit victims of the recent Los Angeles wildfires.)
Shortly before the doors at Roll Hill opened, and the chaos and flurry of shoppers ensued inside, the line that snaked around the venue was a street style scene of its own. Shoppers came dressed to impress—wearing their favorite vintage pieces and dressing up for the occasion. Sisters Emily and Mary Lengyel, for one, had been in line since 8 a.m., and scored a coveted spot near the front of the queue. “I heard about it on TikTok, and I was not going to miss this,” says Emily of the sale. Emily had her sights set on scoring a pair of Chanel heels, while sister Mary was hoping for a Chloé bag. “We love shopping together,” says Mary. “She’s the only one I listen to for fashion.”
Maxx Evan, who is studying fashion history, was hoping to find some vintage Prada inside. Cheyenne Grenaway attended the sale with her boyfriend’s mother, Shanda Bontrager, who flew in from Indiana specifically for the sale. They, too, both had specific shopping lists in mind. “I love New York, and I love anything vintage,” says Bontrager, while Grenaway adds, “I’m hoping for some Chanel bags. I’m a vintage addict.”
Carolina Gaillard, who works in fashion and product development, heard about the sale on the Vogue app, and the shopper actually came with bridal fashion on the mind. “I have a wedding coming up that I need a dress for, and I thought it would be fun to go vintage for that,” she says, though she admits that she is keeping her wish-list for a perfect wedding dress relatively open-minded. “Something kind of ’90s or beaded—or something springy and flouncy. There’s a lot of ways I could go.”
Leila Imani, meanwhile, wanted to find a perfect outfit for her upcoming birthday celebration. “It’s my 21st birthday next weekend, and I always wear something red on my birthday,” says Imani. “I did it two years in a row accidentally, and now I made it a thing.”
