For the past few months, celebrities have been giving the cardigan a sexy summer spin. How has the geek-chic sweater suddenly become a sultry must-have, you ask? Trendsetters such as Bella Hadid and Katie Holmes have given it a refresh by forgoing a top underneath, or styling it with more form-fitting dresses. And now there’s another stylish contender in the mix: today, model Kaia Gerber stepped out in New York City wearing her take on the tricky trend.
Gerber’s cardigan of choice was a knitted short-sleeved style, worn without a top underneath, as many of her style predecessors have also done. She then styled the sweater with straight-leg jeans in a medium wash, and finished off the look with sleek accessories such as strappy sandals, round sunglasses, and a sprightly orange shoulder bag—very ’90s of her. It seems the case is now closed: the summer cardi is officially extending into the fall season. Buckle up—or rather, button up.
