Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan and Maison Atia designer Chloé Mendel married this past weekend among family and friends at their home in Highland Park, Illinois. “Our journey to marriage has certainly been unique, but we wouldn’t have had it any other way,” Chloé says. “We were married with our two children, Augustus Juppiter and Philomena Clementine, by our side.” To make the day even more special, both the bride and groom wore couture looks by House of Gilles, which is designed by Chloé’s father, Gilles Mendel of House of Gilles.

In August, ahead of the wedding, Vogue caught up with Chloé at her final wedding dress fitting at The Lowell in New York City. Her children were in tow and her dad was on hand to oversee any necessary last-minute adjustments or alterations, making for a very special father-daughter moment. “It was pretty much a no-brainer that my dad was going to design my dress,” the bride-to-be says.

“We started by discussing inspiration, and my daughter brought me some inspiration images of a Greek goddess from there we started to build this idea of this beautiful ethereal dress,” Gilles explains. He goes on to add that his daughter lives in Chicago near the lake, and the mist on the water in the morning is especially beautiful. So he suggested that the color of the dress—rather than being a traditional white—err more towards a subtle silver in an effort to try and achieve a magical, mystical, cloudy feel.

“I loved so much the process of designing my daughter’s gown,” Gilles says. “It really gave me the strength to open my new atelier, House of Giles.”

After the fit of the ceremony dress was deemed perfect, Chloé changed into her second dress. “The party dress is the complete opposite,” Chloe explains. “It’s a mix of crepe and lace. I love the squiggling embroidery on top of the lace. I think it’s super-fun, and there’s an element of youthfulness.”
