Amidst the hubbub of Paris couture week, with crown jewels and runway debuts abound, David Beckham had an under-the-radar arrival at La Réserve Hotel.
While the former soccer star is no stranger to the Paris fashion scene—his wife, Victoria Beckham, shows there every season—he isn’t in town to sit front row. Today, Victoria will be honored with the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, an honor bestowed by the French government for contribution to culture and the arts. (Last year, Demna received the prestigious title, while it was awarded to Simon Porte Jacquemus the year before.)
Ahead of what’s sure to be a fashion-filled ceremony at the Ministry of Culture this evening, Beckham’s arrival proved a sartorial moment of its own. In a take on the Canadian tuxedo, Becks rolled up to the hotel in an indigo button-up jacket with deep pockets and a stand collar from Loro Piana’s fall 2024 menswear collection, which he paired with matching slim-fitting jeans.
While a double-denim moment is a statement by itself, it was Beckham’s enormous luggage that stole the show. In place of a traditional suitcase, he opted for an Hermès Haut à Courroies bag fashioned in toile, with golden brown leather finishings and palladium hardware. (A similar Toile De Camp HAC Birkin 50 sold on The RealReal for $13,000.) The Haut à Courroies, also known as the HAC, was first sold in 1892 and designed for lugging around equestrian gear.
So that begs the question: What on earth could David Beckham have in his absolutely massive bag? Maybe he’s planning to fit in a quick riding sesh between the Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres ceremony and dinner? We’ll just assume he’s carrying a spare pair of jodhpurs and a riding helmet until proven otherwise.
