Last year, denim became red carpet appropriate, with help from the likes of Hunter Schafer in floor-length Rick Owens at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, and Taylor Russell in Levi’s and vintage Gucci at the Gotham Awards. Now, Dakota Johnson has stepped things up a notch on the formal denim front.
At a screening at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the 33-year-old actor delivered a sultry take on denim that shut down the red carpet. The indigo blue outfit by A-list go-to Magda Butrym comprised a navel-baring corset top, high-waisted tapered trousers and a structured double-breasted coat. To top it all off, Johnson wore a Jessica McCormack diamond chain necklace and a black pair of pumps. Why do double denim when triple denim looks this good?
A departure from her usual retro-inspired gowns and spangled Gucci, the sexy all-denim look represents something of a shift in Johnson’s red-carpet wardrobe.
