The Dorchester

There is perhaps no hotel that understands ceremony better than The Dorchester, where royals and celebrities have been merrymaking over glasses of champagne and strong cocktails for nearly a century. So, when it comes to Christmastime, it’s no surprise the celebration begins well before December 25. The hotel’s newly renovated lobby—already a thing of beauty with its gilded ceilings, glittering chandeliers, and outrageous bouquets of fresh flowers—is transformed into a total yuletide fantasia.

In addition to the decor (twinkling trees in every corner, neatly wrapped presents on every surface), the hotel has a dedicated dining program for the season, as well as a festive twist on high tea in the Artist’s Bar, complete with carolers and a live pianist stationed at Liberace’s mirrored piano. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, there are special set menus throughout The Dorchester, including at The Grill, Tom Booton’s love letter to modern British cuisine; Alain Ducasse’s three Michelin-starred French restaurant; and the Chef’s Table, which is tucked away in the hotel’s wine vault. But if you’re looking for another kind of indulgence, you can head downstairs to China Tang, the hotel’s Cantonese mainstay—or even better yet, send it up to your room for a lavish night in while you watch the snow fall on Hyde Park. —Jessie Heyman

The great location is also near Skate West End, where you and your loved ones can go ice skating and enjoy hot chocolate (or something a little stronger). Upon entering the hotel, visitors are greeted with its eye-catching interior, from colorful wallpaper to beautifully traditional furniture. For those spending Christmas Day at Covent Garden, make a reservation at Brasserie Max and enjoy offerings from its festive menu, like black truffle and potato en croûte with artichoke and spinach. —Gia Yetikyel
