EQ Hotels, the group behind the popular Hôtel Dame des Arts—known for its rooftop bar with breathtaking city views—has continued its expansion in Paris’s Left Bank with the opening of the Hôtel des Grands Voyageurs. Ideally located between the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and the Montparnasse metro station, the property evokes the understated luxury of 1930s travel combined with an aesthetic inspired by the city’s surrounding streets—making it the obvious choice for Vogue editors to stay at while visiting the city for Vogue World: Paris last month.

The 138 rooms and suites are plush cocoons of comfort, spread out along the corridors on the upper floors where rope handrails provide a nautical touch. The rooms have thick carpets printed with stars, mahogany desks, pale green furniture, and vinyl turntables playing Edith Piaf. Above the enormous beds, plaster bas-reliefs are by sculptor François Gilles.

On the ground floor, there’s a bar with velvet upholstery and a restaurant with a menu inspired by those of historic transatlantic liners. After sipping a perfectly made margarita or martini, a variety of different dishes quickly follow: fresh oysters, pâté en croûte, moules marinière, New York steaks, lobster rolls, and cheesecake, all served under beautiful lithographs by Gustav Klimt.

Last but not least, there’s also a speakeasy hidden in the basement. Named Poppy, after the flower with an infamously illicit side, its menu features floral cocktails such as the Blue Velvet (Vecindad tequila, lime, coconut, jasmine, spirulina, and Muyu Vetvier Gris liqueur) and the Midnight Rhapsody (cachaça, lemon, pastis, fennel liqueur, egg white, tonic, and poppy seeds). Chagall lithographs adorn the walls, and as the night unfolds, the atmosphere heats up and the volume of the music from the DJs steadily increases. It’s yet another reason to check in at this stylish new Left Bank stay.
