Back-to-school season isn’t just for the kids. Katie Holmes may have recently dropped Suri off at college, but she looks like she could attend a lecture or two herself.
With Labor Day in the rearview and an ever so slight chill in the air, the actor put her everywoman, boho-esque spin on a preppy outfit. She wore a salmon pink button-up with three-quarter length sleeves and a Peter Pan collar, its lace trim trailing down the front of her blouse. Holmes styled the top with a pair of cropped wide-legged jeans, dark blue velvet Mary-Jane flats from ViBi Venezia, and a pair of brown tortoiseshell sunglasses.
In the place of a schoolgirl book bag, she toted an enormous caramel-colored leather bag. Don’t expect to see this on the arms of many college students, though: the Khaite Amelia bag retails for $2,400. As British Vogue’s Alice Newbold said of Holmes’s favorite purse: “the Amelia, like everything else in Khaite’s orbit, is an investment item, but Holmes has shown that when considering cost per wear, the fashion math does pay off.”
While her outfit may be more downtown cool than Upper East Side prep school, Katie Holmes’s outfit gives us the flutters in our stomachs that only the start of fall can bring.
