This year, there have been more celebrity engagements than you can count, with famous duos like Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum, Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi, and Zooey Deschanel and Property Brothers’ Jonathan Scott all taking the next step with engagement rings, “love of my life” selfies, and joint Instagram posts.

In true Disney adult fashion, Rebel Wilson proposed to her “Disney princess,” Ramona Agruma, at Disneyland last February. Noah Cyrus said “yes” to her now-fiancé, fashion designer Pinkus, back in May: “This past month of being your fiancé and being in our own little world of just us two has been so perfect and I wish I could never leave this time,” she captioned her Instagram post

Kate Bosworth and Justin Long shocked fans when Bosworth flaunted a 10-carat diamond ring on her left hand on the red carpet at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party; and just two months later, the lovebirds got married in New York City s Queens. Meanwhile, Pretty Little Liars’ Ashley Benson and oil heir Brandon Davis opted to forgo the traditional dating grace period and, instead, commit completely. In other words, I could go on about Hollywood s marital affairs.

But not all A-list couples have been in such a hurry. In fact, public figures have a history of getting engaged quickly, but then enjoying a nice long engagement, postponing the actual wedding plans indefinitely or, sometimes tying the knot several years later.

So, as you optimistically wait for the exciting news of Taylor Swift’s engagement to Travis Kelce, below, find six couples who got engaged, and took their time before saying “I do,” or are still taking their time…(According to TikTok, “I can’t interfere; it’s a canon event.”)

1. Oprah Winfrey and Stedman Graham

Engaged for: 31 years (and counting).

The longest engagement in Hollywood: Winfrey and Graham were originally engaged back in 1992 (and started dating in 1986), but postponed the wedding due to busy schedules. Flash-forward to today and the couple still have yet to tie the knot. She told Vogue in 2017, “The only time I brought it up was when I said to Stedman, ‘What would have happened if we had actually gotten married?’ And the answer is: ‘We wouldn’t be together.’ We would not have stayed together, because marriage requires a different way of being in this world. His interpretation of what it means to be a husband and what it would mean for me to be a wife would have been pretty traditional, and I would not have been able to fit into that.”

2. Michelle Yeoh and Jean Todt

Engaged for: 19 years.

Yeoh and Todt, after a 19-year engagement, tied the knot in Geneva last summer, and shared the happy news on social media only after the fact. This comes as no surprise knowing Todt, the former CEO of Ferrari’s penchant for living life in the fast lane—after meeting Yeoh at the Shanghai Grand Prix in 2004, he proposed within a mere two months of dating.

3. Amy Adams and Darren Le Gallo

Engaged for: Seven years.

After six years of dating, the couple got engaged back in 2008, but waited seven years to walk down the aisle. Adams and Gallo got married in California in 2015. The actress joked of their long engagement, telling Allure in 2019, “He wants to be married. I think he was patient for the first nine months, but [now] that we have been engaged for a year, he’s sort of, you know, ‘This is going to happen, right?’ He understands I’m busy but he’s ready. He’s much more ready for kids and stuff than I am.” Today, the couple has one 13-year-old daughter, Aviana.

Engaged for: Six years.

Fisher and Cohen began dating in 2002, and were engaged in 2004. They waited six years before making it official, eventually marrying in Paris in 2010. During their engagement, Fisher converted to Judaism for her longtime boyfriend, saying, “I would do anything—move into any religion—to be united in marriage with him. We have a future together and religion comes second to love as far as we are concerned.” The twosome have three children together: daughters Olive and Elula, and son Montgomery.

Simpson and NFL alum Johnson first got engaged in 2010. In 2012, they welcomed their first child together, daughter Maxwell “Maxi” Drew. Their second child, son Ace Knute, was born in 2013. They eventually tied the knot in California in 2014, and had their third kid, Birdie Mae, in 2019.

Engaged for: Four years.

Bell and Shepard got engaged in 2009, after filming wrapped in Italy for the rom-com When in Rome. They made their engagement public during the 2010 Grammys, where Bell proudly boasted an emerald-cut diamond on her ring finger, with Shepard by her side. They waited to make things official until the state of California legalized same-sex marriage. When it did, they got married later in 2013, which is the same year they welcomed their first child Lincoln. Their second daughter, Delta, was born just a year later.
