PhotoVogue Festival 2023: The Talks
This conversation took place on November 17th 2023 as part of the PhotoVogue Festival 2023 which centered around the theme “What Makes us Human?: Image in the Age of A.I.”
In this group discussion, a diverse panel of experts and thought leaders from various fields, including photography, technology, law, and journalism, come together to delve into the ethical dilemmas posed by artificial intelligence in image creation and dissemination. The discussion explores critical topics such as the implications of A.I. for image makers, the role of AI in combating digital misinformation, the legal and ethical frameworks governing AI in the EU, and the intersection of multimedia forensics and A.I. Additionally, the panel discusses the importance of fact-checking, media literacy, and the challenges of navigating truth in the age of AI. As the festival s opening group conversation, it offers a unique opportunity for a comprehensive exploration of complex ethical issues arising from A.I. in image creation and dissemination. This discussion brings together experts, many of whom delivered individual presentations earlier in the day, providing a platform for the convergence of diverse perspectives and a deeper examination of these challenges.
The group discussion will be held with the panelist who curated the talks throughout the day: Millie Tran (VP, Content Strategy and Growth), Fred Ritchin (Dean Emeritus of the School at New York’s International Center of Photography and former picture editor of The New York Times Magazine), Santiago Lyon (Head of Advocacy and Education for the Content Authenticity Initiative, Adobe), Guido Noto La Diega (Chair of IP Privacy Law, University of Stirling and member of the European Commission’s Expert Group on A.I. and Data in Education and TrA.I.ning), Florian Koenigsberger (Photographer and Image Equity Lead at Google), Daniele Moretti (Deputy editor-in-chief of Sky Tg24), Zahra Rasool (Director, Writer, Producer and Media Entrepreneur).
