When you book the same stylist as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, you can expect to be invoiced by The Row and Saint Laurent. Hello to Emma Jade Morrison’s newest recruit Sofia Richie Grainge, who has enrolled in the former Vogue editor’s school of style: all oversized tailoring, minimalist dresses and microdoses of menswear. Under Morrison’s guidance, Richie Grainge has graduated from logo-heavy to low-key styling and orchestrated the chicest pregnancy announcement in recent (Hollywood) times. We’re suddenly all interested in her wardrobe.
Sofia continued her winning maternity fashion streak in Anthony Vaccarello’s sensual-sleek YSL designs at the Grammys, where the model wore a black caped gown that made an impact for all its exquisite simplicity. Frosted with Lorraine Schwartz diamonds, the look had shades of Jennifer Lawrence’s embellished Dior cape, which the actor wore when she was heavily pregnant on the Don’t Look Up tour, but Richie Grainge’s moment felt fresh and right for now. Just a day earlier, she set the tone for her chic black red-carpet wear in an off-the-shoulder Attersee suit, with an Hermès Kelly Cut bag for company.
Classic will be Sofia’s MO throughout her pregnancy with Morrison steering the way. “It’s critical as a stylist to have a point of view and to stand by that vision,” the market editor-turned-celebrity dresser has previously told British Vogue of her singular approach to dressing her clients. “If you don’t have a strong direction, you’re just putting clothing on people without a purpose.” We’ll certainly see pops of Sofia coming through—via the prerequisite maternity overalls, trending sunglasses and hyper-luxe Hermès handbags (she carried an original Kelly this weekend too)—but, by and large, Sofia is signposting this milestone as a stripped-back time that’s not about trends, but careful curation. She has, after all, got lots else on her mind.
