Timothée Chalamet is setting out to distinguish himself as the new generation’s Willy Wonka, and what better way to do so than by dressing like a literal bar of chocolate?

At Wonka’s Los Angeles premiere, Chalamet wore a custom dark brown Tom Ford crocodile suit that resembled a bar of dark chocolate—we’re talking, like, 80% cacao content here, folks. The Oscar nominee wore a sleek single breasted blazer over a black mock neck, and slim-fitting pants, which he paired with black alligator boots (also Tom Ford). The friend of Cartier also repped some of the jewelry brand’s pieces, decking himself out in a thick ring on his index finger, a Juste un Clou ring on his right ring finger, and a diamond inlaid Panthère de Cartier bracelet. All gold—of course—á là the Golden Tickets.

The actor largely stays in his own lane when it comes to red carpet and press style, eschewing the increasingly popular “method dressing” favored by a growing swathe of stars. Instead, with his chainmail tank top, a latex trench coat, and a black pinstriped Alexander McQueen suit, he continues to promote his films as Timothée Chalamet, not as Willy Wonka. Still, that doesn’t preclude him from referencing his predecessors, even in more subtle nods. At the Wonka premiere in London, he rocked a magenta velvet Tom Ford suit that seemed to wink at a middle ground between Gene Wilder’s 1971 original Willy Wonka and Johnny Depp’s 2005 recreation.

Still, whether or not Timothée Chalamet knowingly modeled his L.A. look after a chocolate bar, it’s exciting to see him toe the line between his personal style and his projects.
