When celebrities attend a basketball game, they tend to use their courtside seats to flex a statement look—and it makes sense, given you never know when you’ll be panned to on the Jumbotron. Beyoncé, Kaia Gerber, Adele: They’ve all dressed to impress at a game. The latest star to serve up a memorable fashion moment? Actor Timothée Chalamet, who attended the Los Angeles Clippers versus New York Knicks match yesterday (the Clippers won). The Wonka star even slipped into an unexpected piece—a sweater covered in books?—for the occasion.
Forgoing more conventional courtside garb, like a player’s jersey, Chalamet opted for a chunky crewneck festooned with rows and rows of books—almost like a wearable bookshelf. Someone clearly loves a good read, and wants to make it known! If you think about it, though, the actor’s film choices so far have pointed to a deep-seated respect for literature; some of his biggest and best films have been adapted from books, including Wonka, Call Me by Your Name, Beautiful Boy, Little Women, and Dune. (Turns out, the sweater is Sacai’s Interstellar pullover—perhaps a nod to the 2014 movie he starred in.)
Still, it’s a fun game to imagine what Chalamet’s bookshelf looks like at home. Is he the type of guy to maintain a well-worn collection of volumes that he picks up over and over again? What’s on his nightstand? Has he read buzzy recent releases like The Fraud or Birnam Wood? Is he more of a celebrity-memoir reader, eagerly tucking into Britney Spears’s The Woman in Me? Or does he keep a carefully curated assortment of novels that have slowly collected dust because he never has time to read them? Whatever the case may be, it’s clear that Chalamet loves books, in one way or another. He’s probably even reading something right now that will be eventually turned into a movie—with him in the starring heartthrob role, obviously.
