Even torrential rain over Memorial Day weekend couldn’t dampen the inevitable—after a summer of pandemic-induced hibernation, the Hamptons was back in all its beachy and bougie glory. DJs spun at The Surf Lodge in Montauk. Reservations at Sant Ambroeus in Southampton were few and far between. Traffic on Highway 27 was an absolute nightmare. (We’re still experiencing residual road rage.) And exciting new restaurants, buzzy pop-ups, and luxurious lodgings all welcomed patrons for the first time.
For the curious, we took the liberty of chronicling the coolest openings across the several South Fork hamlets. From a new casual café by the minds behind Moby’s, to acupuncture offerings, to Gucci’s Hamptons debut, here’s what’s worth checking out this summer.
Hotels
EHP Resort and Marina, East Hampton
EHP Resort and Marina opened this May minutes from East Hampton Village. Formerly East Hampton Point, their revamped grounds include a tennis court, swimming pool, a fitness center, and an assortment of cottages adorned in a classic beachy East End aesthetic. But while the amenities are nice, it’s the view—and yacht-dotted sunsets—of Three Mile Harbor that’s the main selling point.
The Reform Club, Amagansett
Last year, The Reform Club—once known as the Windmill Inn—quietly re-opened as a newly rebranded hotel. It’s this idyllic getaway’s first season in full swing. It has a sunken garden, a tea room, an orchard, and, of course, charming shingled accommodations on its well-manicured five-acre lawn.
Restaurants
Moby’s Market, East Hampton
Perennial Hamptons hotspot Moby’s (which is back again at its old location on Highway 27) will open a casual café, called Moby’s Market, next to their full-service restaurant. Enjoy daytime dishes like egg and mortadella sandwiches, breakfast pizzas, and market salads to-go, or scarf it down on the deck on a lazy Sunday morning.
Si Si, East Hampton
At the newly-opened EHP Resort is Si Si, a Mediterranean restaurant helmed by former Gurney’s chef Dane Sayles. There’s plenty of pasta—including a bucatini verde with Montauk lobster—and even more seafood. Split a whole-roasted branzino, sip some rosé, and watch the sunset go down over Three Mile Harbor.
Rita Cantina, East Hampton
Up in East Hamptons Springs is Rita Cantina, a bright and beachy Mexican restaurant serving up tuna ceviche tostadas, local harvest fluke tacos, and Crescent Farm duck carnitas. Make sure to ask about their margarita of the week, often infused with fresh fruit from a nearby farm stand.
La Ferme, East Hampton
Alimentari Flaneur, the New York City produce stall with quite the fashionable following, has teamed up with DaDa Daily and Ruby Hibiscus Water for their new East Hampton farm stand, called “La Ferme.” Mediterranean figs, fresh barhi dates on the vine, and Dada Daily’s signature vegan snacks will be served from Roman columns and marble busts, as will delectable goodies and chic offerings from a rotating list of chic partners including Scarr’s Pizza, Susan Alexandra, and Land of Belle.
Il Buco Al Mar, Amagansett
The team behind Manhattan’s beloved Il Buco opened a new outpost smack-dab in the center of Amagansett’s Main Street. Their menu includes imported tinned fish from the Iberian Peninsula and Italy, as well as plenty of locally-caught seafood, all cooked up in their wood burning oven.
La Fin Kitchen and Lounge, Montauk
La Fin Kitchen and Lounge works with 20 nearby farms to craft its wide ranging, laid-back Montauk menu. Go for dinner and get the grass-fed skirt steak or yellowfin tuna, or swing by in the morning after a long night at The Surf Lodge for a morning green juice. (Fittingly, due to the hamlet’s many popular nighttime haunts, they have a whole section of the menu called “recovery.”)
Bounce Beach, Montauk
Bounce Beach Montauk opened up with a bang this weekend, hosting events for chic swimwear brand Solid Striped as well as Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s new mezcal brand, Dos Hombres. (The former will host a pop-up there all summer.) With its pastel interiors and beachside location, expect to see Bounce on your Instagram stories again, and again, and again.
Shopping
Gucci, East Hampton
Gucci is no stranger to the Hamptons; past summers have seen the brand make appearances at pop-ups at Montauk’s Melet Mercantile and East Hamptons Moby’s Caravan. And, of course, Gucci has always been seen out East on the bodies of fashionable men and women. But finally, last week, the brand set up a more permanent shop on East Hampton’s main shopping drag. In the two-story space, walls are papered in a lovely moirée jade textile, Gucci-logoed pillows fill a velvet couch, and summery wares—hats, espadrilles, beach bags—are on offer.
Tod’s, East Hampton
This summerlong pop-up in East Hampton brings a touch of la dolce vita to Main Street; Tod’s enlisted Italian artist Andrea Tarella to deck the walls of the temporary store with color-filled illustrations of Portofino’s seaside. More vibrancy can be found in the store’s rainbow of footwear for men and women, with driving shoes and loafers in every hue.
Jacadi, East Hampton
Because mom and dad shouldn’t be the only ones to get a bit of retail therapy this summer, Jacadi opens its first-ever global pop-up shop in East Hampton. The high-end childrenswear boutique set up shop in town with a 1,000-square-foot store filled with seersucker onesies, baby-sized Bretons, and a slew of other summery garbs to outfit the well-appointed baby.
Clare V., Amagansett
You’ll catch a whiff of that easy-breezy, try little but look great French attitude at Clare V.’s newest pop-up in Amagansett. Located across the street from the quaint Amagansett Square (with shops Love Adorned, Henry Lehr, and Noah), the charming boutique will be open all summer long and should be your destination for beach-to-dinner totes.
Veronica Beard, Southampton
On Southampton’s Main Street comes a permanent Veronica Beard outpost and the store’s largest boutique yet. In the space, you’ll find botanical photographs from Claiborne Swanson Frank’s latest “Flower” lining the walls. And on the racks, all the smart separates and dresses you need to outfit you all summer long.
LoveShackFancy, Southampton
Founder of the super sweet boho-brand LoveShackFancy Rebecca Hessel Cohen grew up spending summers out East, so it makes sense she’d want to bring some of the LSF magic to the Hamptons. In addition to a pop-up in Sag Harbor, Hessel Cohen opened up a permanent location in South Hampton. And like all the brand’s brick-and-mortars, the new store feels like a Victorian nightgown came to life. Ditzy florals abound, white-washed floorboards are underfoot, and antiques (sourced by Hessel Cohen) furnish the space. Especially new to the store is LSF’s first-ever line of wallpaper—a collection of dusty floral prints borrowed from the label’s ready to wear.
Christian Louboutin, Southampton
With his new pop-up in Southampton, Christian Louboutin is here to tell us we can wear heels to the beach. But if you’re not convinced, there are flats, wedges, and more sand-friendly options to be shopped. Plus, there is a summery capsule collection that’s only available in-store. Inside the new space, 1,200 square feet on Job’s Lane, Louboutin maintains its flair for the theatrical—lush red carpeting and draperies lend a dramatic touch. There’s also a wallpaper featuring footwear illustrations from Jean-Vincent Simonet, which was made especially for the pop-up.
One, East Hampton
In occupying the impressive 1 Main Street address of East Hampton, Julianna Teeple figured the name for her store was a no-brainer: One. The sprawling concept shop spans three levels and is filled with good design of all varieties. On the ground floor, there are pieces from Roll Hill’s new line of furniture, plus an artful light fixture that feels more like a constellation. Up the stairs, find more ready-to-wear and accessories (Carolina K, Mirth, Sensi Studio) for men and women, plus an eye-catching display of Sensei Studios bags and the VIP lounge. All around, there is great art furnished by Artsy—it’s all for sale as the online art destination’s first in-person outpost.
Fivestory, Southampton
Though it’s not five stories high, the second outpost of Fivestory in Southampton is well worth the visit. The new space, now helmed by Karen Murray, is stocked with Emporio Le Sirenuse, Lug Von Siga dresses, Batsheva, plus objects for the home—perfect for last-minute hostess gifts should you be a weekend house guest. The vibe is minimal and bright with white fixtures and blonde wood floors. Don’t miss the secondhand or “pre-loved” wares, which is a new product category for Fivestory.
Manolo Blahnik, East Hampton
A lot is going on right now in the world of Manolo Blahnik. The designer has not only opened up shop on Madison Avenue (his famed West 54th Street store is now famously occupied by Sarah Jessica Parker, disciple of Mr. Blahnik), but there’s also a pop-up in East Hampton on Main Street. Open now, the store’s display of footwear is as artful as the shoes themselves, with floating shelves and upholstery benches in vibrant colors. And Mr. Blahnik has, of course, stocked the space with beach-friendly footwear and everything else the East Hamptonite might need to take him or her to Nick Toni’s and Babette’s.
Hidden Gem, Southampton
For imported curios and the perfect hostess gifts, look no further than Hidden Gem in Southampton—the name really says it all! Founded by sisters Temidra and Tanya Willock, the lifestyle boutique offers a collection of goods from underrepresented and local artisans. Shop hand-woven textiles, macramé sheathed bottles, carved wooden surfboards, and more things you’ll surely see nowhere else on Main Street.
Lingua Franca, Montauk
There’s much more than embroidered cashmere goodies at the Lingua Franca pop-up at Montauk’s well-situated hotel and restaurant Crow’s Nest. Shop evil eye jewelry from Marlo Laz, straw hats from Gigi Burris, summery sandals from Larroude, and knits from Lingua Franca. It’s really the perfect setup for those Crow’s Nest diners who find themselves unprepared for chilly Montauk nights. The pop-up is open all summer long.
Ralph Lauren, Southampton
Ralph Lauren opened a charming new home cottage adjacent to their Southampton storefront. It offers fine bed linens and textiles, a breadth of entertaining pieces, gifts and decorative accessories, as well as a curated selection of vintage and antique pieces.
Beauty Wellness
The Surf Lodge Wellness Program, Montauk
Buzzy Montauk hotspot The Surf Lodge balances their famous bacchanalia with their summer wellness series, done in partnership with Lightbox Jewelry. On Saturdays, they’ll offer fitness classes by celebrity trainer Isaac Boots, model Nina Agdal, Stephen Cheuk of S10 Training, and Sarrah Strimel of Damn Good Yoga. They’ll also have an in-house meditation expert, Jackie Cantwell, who will conduct soothing sound-bath sessions overlooking Fort Pond.
Marmur Medical Pop-Up, Southampton
Top New York dermatologist Ellen Marmur opens a pop-up Southampton office this summer that’ll offer both cosmetic and medical treatments, including skin checks, so you can have some responsible fun in the sun.
ORA Acupuncture, Bridgehampton
Trendy NoHo acupuncture outpost, Ora, sets up shop at the Soul Cycle Barn in Bridgehampton this summer. If you don’t want to venture out, don’t fret: they’ll also make personal house calls.
Entertaining
Social Studies, East Hampton
Social Studies, the e-commerce site for rentable tablescapes, is now allowing you to peruse the party in person. Their new Main Street East Hampton outpost offers picnic kits perfect for outdoor dining on the beach, lawn, or park—their “Montauk” offering comes with a striped towel, colorful melamine plates, acrylic glasses, a wood board, and a cheerful coral tumbler.
The Hamptons’ preeminent gourmet grocer, Citarella, is making it easy to elevate your summer clambake with their new line of custom seafood boxes. Order their lobster roll kit, complete with 1.5 pounds of lobster meat, brioche buns, and all the appropriate fixings. Or, for a more formal affair, try their “Seafood Grilling” set, which comes with lobster tails, salmon filets, shrimp, tuna steaks, ceviche, skewers, and cedar planks. Oh, and they’ll deliver it all right to your door.
Savour—the app that allows you to book private chefs—expands to the Hamptons after launching in New York and Miami earlier this spring. With a few simple swipes, a culinary maestro with experience at a Michelin Star restaurant can cook up a nine-course meal from the comfort of your kitchen.
Party by Numbers, the “party in a box” company launched by co-founders of the creative agency, The Gathery, expands to the Hamptons. It includes everything from table settings to cocktails, food to florals—all packaged neatly in an eco-friendly bar cart. We’re eyeing their Amalfi-inspired Sorrento option, which comes with a thyme-infused Aperol spritz, ricotta and fennel pizza, a Mediterranean striped table cloth, lemon-and-olive branch arrangements, and so much more.
