Four years before Hayley Sullivan and Deven Marrero would form their own wedding party together, the pair met while serving the role of bridesmaid and groomsman respectively at a mutual friend’s New Year’s Eve wedding in 2021. “Amid the celebration, an unexpected connection transcended the festivities,” says Hayley. The Styled by Collective founder first interacted with the professional baseball player at breakfast when he offered her dog Finn a piece of bacon. “Throughout the day, Deven’s kindness unfolded in subtle ways—helping bridesmaids navigate their dresses, sharing quiet glances that felt like unspoken conversations,” remembers Hayley. “During cocktail hour, I saw him standing at the top of the stairs—his gaze finding mine with intense intention. He told his friends that day that he would someday marry me. From that night forward, our lives intertwined in a way that felt both unexpected and beautifully certain.”
On their first real date in New York City, a walk in Central Park led to a trip to the emergency vet when Finn fell ill. “Deven sat with me on the veterinary floor for seven hours while we waited for an update. It wasn’t the first date I had imagined, but in many ways, it told me everything I needed to know about him,” says Hayley. “The next day, I changed his name in my phone to ‘Deven ♾️.’” A few years later in December 2023, Deven took Hayley to a massive infinity sculpture in Napa Valley. “Inside that endless loop, he knelt down and asked me to spend forever with him,” she adds.
The day after getting engaged, the couple took Finn on a walk through Napa and began to envision their wedding. “Before making a single decision, we chose three words to guide us,” says Hayley. “Deven picked elegant for me. I chose intimate for him. And together, we decided on romantic. These weren’t just aesthetic markers; they embodied what our relationship has always been.” To help bring these words to life, the pair hired wedding planner Shannon Leahy. “Working with Shannon felt as natural as it was meaningful,” notes Hayley. “She is not just an incredible planner but a dear friend—someone who understands both the artistry and emotion behind a wedding.”
While San Francisco City Hall has served as the location of many small civil weddings, the couple decided to book the entire rotunda. As a Bay Area native, Hayley says hosting at the storied venue felt personal and timeless. “Growing up in the Bay Area, returning home for this next chapter felt poetic,” she shares. The wedding date, January 25, 2025, also proved to be perfectly timed. “On our wedding night, a rare celestial event unfolded: a planetary parade, where every planet in our solar system aligned in a single line,” explains Hayley. This cosmic phenomenon inspired the couple to include astrological motifs throughout their wedding plans, from personalized Zodiac plates for every guest to arranging the tables to represent the sun with surrounding planets in orbit.
The stars also helped lead Hayley to collaborate with Dior for her wedding wardrobe, including a custom Christian Dior haute couture gown and pieces from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s spring 2024 and fall 2024 couture collections. “As a firm believer in astrology, I felt an instant connection to Dior, who shared my passion. Being a Gemini sun with an Aquarius moon—Monsieur Dior’s own sun sign—it felt as though our energies aligned,” shares the bride. “His favorite flower lily of the valley—which I had unknowingly chosen for my bouquet—further deepened this connection. This motif, also associated with Gemini, appeared throughout our invitation suite and was delicately embroidered into the lining of my dress.”
Hayley began her design process for her gown with Alessandra Maia and the couture team a year and a day ahead of her wedding, completing six total fittings to refine the vision. Inspired by Grace Kelly, the design featured a full skirt contrasted with a delicate bodice featuring a mock neck and long sleeves. “We honored the formality of our venue while incorporating a modern twist—layering a nude corseted bodice beneath traditional lace, preserving its elegance while adding subtle allure,” she says. “On New Year’s Eve, Deven described his vision of my wedding dress with uncanny accuracy—a testament to how deeply he knows me.”
Hayley turned to Dior for every major moment at her wedding, donning a sheath dress from the fall 2024 couture collection with gold cuffs at their Promontory Winery rehearsal dinner and a trouser, top, and cape ensemble from the spring 2024 Dior couture collection for their Old Hollywood–inspired welcome party at the Fairmont San Francisco. After attending the Dior resort show in Scotland with Deven, she chose two additional ready-to-wear looks to wear at the reception and after-party. “For each ensemble, I was fortunate to wear exquisite jewelry loaned from Norman Silverman, each piece harmonizing with my attire and the occasion’s spirit,” says Hayley.
