Images of the Week: Prince Philip Dies at 99

Early on Friday morning, Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, had died at the age of 99. “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the announcement read, adding that the Prince had died “peacefully” at Windsor Castle. He and Queen Elizabeth II had been together for 74 years.
Earlier in the week, Amanda Gorman became the first poet to grace the cover of Vogue. In her accompanying profile, she told writer Doreen St. Félix, “I don’t want it to be something that becomes a cage,” she said, “where to be a successful Black girl, you have to be Amanda Gorman and go to Harvard. I want someone to eventually disrupt the model I have established.”
