Dries Van Noten: Fall 2013 Menswear
Released on 01/19/2013
(mellow lounge music)
I heard just before the show
that it had the evocative title Walk of Shame.
Dries Von Noten s new show was all about
the morning after the night before
when you put on whatever you can reach.
But I must say, his dress-up box
is a lot more interesting than mine.
(bluesy, soulful music)
The starting point was the morning after.
So, a wild night,
you tumble out of bed,
you grab clothes together.
Also some pieces of your girlfriend s wardrobe
when you go out to buy a bottle of milk.
[Matthew] Now what do you know about the morning after?
You seem such a good boy.
I hope everybody has a few nice
morning afters, no? (laughs)
It actually felt to me, still in bed,
rather than out of bed.
There was kind of a, almost like a little
Nemo feel to it, you know?
Swaddled in the bedclothes and these beautiful
robe coats,
that it actually almost felt kind of half awake.
Love that sort of funked-up bomber jacket he did.
I think he also saw him on point
with a lot of the windowpane plaid,
which we ve seen a lot of this season.
He can take something that s ancient
and got a great legacy
and he pulls it in and makes it look
completely rebellious and very sort of street.
Menswear is now for the moment,
because everything is so severe,
and I just wanted to have something
which was just loose and whatever
and comfortable, lot of soft materials.
[Matthew] It did feel like an edge of madness there,
that mix of sort of worn Eastern pieces
worn with fuzzy mohairs and pajamas.
Well, I think that s where you see
the mix and match of the walk of shame,
of rolling out of bed and throwing on whatever,
but I think actually that is a very contemporary
way to wear clothes.
You know, that s what gets endless lip service
about the mix of high and low
and couture and street, you know?
Why shouldn t it be Turkish chieftan robe
and pajama top?
[Tim] It doesn t work as well for everyone
if you don t have Dries s dress-up box.
Well, we d all be better with a full Dries wardrobe,
but that s what dreams are for.
