Gucci: Fall 2013 Menswear

The Gucci today was an evolution towards elegance.

Friday Giannini used some classic menswear coats

in a kind of somber way.

But then she dropped hits of mohair color into the mix.

Somber and playful.

That s the Gucci paradox for fall.

(violin music)

[Tim Blanks] So what did you think of the

Gucci collection?

I was surprised, it s like from look one,

you just wanted it right away, you know.

It s one of those collections, buy it now,

wear it right away, you know.

That moment that leather jacket came out

with that overcoat on the shoulders,

I was just gasping, I like, wanted that right away.

[Tim Blanks] What do you think changed

for this collection then?

It was very somber, and I think she just really wanted

to focus on classics.

We ve come from all of this pattern,

all of this peacocking, if you will,

and it s kind of taking it to a more minimal look.

I love that there was huge emphasis on outerwear.

Milan is all about cocooning in these huge overcoats

so I thought it was really really fashion that she

focused more on outwear and not so much on tailoring.

[Tim Blanks] There s definitely a really strong story

in Milan that s houndstooth charcoal grey.

I love the way they did it here because

it s exaggerated.

It s exaggerated windowpane, exaggerated houndstooth,

and they made it sexy.

[Tim Blanks] Do you think this is what your customers

are hungry for?

I think they re looking for both.

You know, you have to cater to the guys who love

a loud jacket and then the guys who love a navy suit.

[Tim Blanks] What do you think Gucci represents

to young guys now.

I think it s very aspirational luxury and

younger men want to look all done up and perfect.

So I think this was a perfect Gucci collection.
