[Tim] So, who s the Rodarte girl?

Is the one who dares wear design, real design.

The Rodarte girls grew up in Santa Cruz,

which is where the Lost Boys was set.

And that s the kind of dark thread that wove

into collections in the past.

But today they were inspired by the beach,

not to bloodsuckers.

We did a show based on where we grew up.

[Tim] What s unique about Santa Cruz, though?

You know, there a different feeling between

beaches in Southern California

and beaches in Northern California.

They re just different.

It s cold water beaches so it s completely

different culture.

No rocky beach, it s kind of more trees surrounding it.

[Tim] With vampires living in the cliffs.

Oh yeah, you did have those, actually.

We have see the Lost Boys, about I think

that s one of our favorite movies of all time.

Fabulous jewelry, great belts, incredible silhouette

with the big shoulders and the crop pants.

The leather jackets made me crazy, I want them.

[Tim] Who do you think you become when you put on

an outfit like that?

Wild, wild West, no?

A sheriff, maybe like a cowboy girl.

Rodarte, they open the visibility toward the aesthetic

of the far West to me.

I don t know what is it, is it the Indian culture?

Is it the cowboys?

[Tim] Hippies, witches?

Exactly, all these American fantasy

that we style in a very modern way.

[Tim] Do you think that having an inspiration

which was so close to you hearts led to the collection

being sort of pared back in a way?

I think a huge component was figuring out

how you do color really strongly.

It was really about finding a balance between things

that you would naturally think, oh Bohemian tie-dye right?

But for us it was like we wanted these to be

like little modern statues.

To me, it s the far West mixed with the floral modernity.

It s exciting, it s fun,

you want to have a girlfriend like that.

[Tim] I also like the way it felt to be a bit

like (foreign words).

There s always witches and vampires,

but these guys seemed a little more sexier

and tougher, street.

[Tim] They made a deal their deal with the devil

and they won.

Yeah, and they re behind barred wire somehow.
