Oh, good morning.
I just rolled out of bed in my PJ s.
But we are getting ready for fashion s biggest nights.
We ve got the dream team.
Genesis, my stylist.
Paul Tazewell, the designer of my look today.
And of course, the divine eBay.

Yes, my whole look is upcycled from eBay.
Just reused leathers, pleathers, beads, everything.
I am honored to even be in the same room with Paul.
He is a visionary, and he understands
so much historical context
because of what he does on a normal basis.
I would say the feeling of today,
for me, is absolute excitement.
It s over the top because it s focusing on a theme
that is so near and dear to my heart,
and really how I ve evolved as a designer.
The light is being shined on what Black culture
has brought to the world of fashion.
Started with acknowledging the importance of Black culture,
and tailoring within that.
And finding the intersection of Chappell Roan,
everything that she is drawn to visually.
Wrapping herself within the style of drag queens
and how that s influenced her look.
We referenced Sylvester, really leaning into
queer kind of 1980s, 1970s disco drag music.
Paul really taught me to channel
that love of larger than life fashion,
and larger than life fearlessness.
There s so many things that are accessible on eBay.
Things that you didn t think were possible,
and that you could like only dream of, can exist.
I come from a background of thrifting and so does she.
So, it s a full circle moment for us to be
even going to like fashion s biggest night with eBay
because we ve been using it for so long
to build the world in a really authentic way.
And pair Tiny Desk, the Betsey Johnson pink dress.
VMAs red carpet look,
the ring with a little chain bag was from eBay.
The accessories that we have utilized throughout her looks
of the last year up until now
have made those looks more punk.
Fashion is used as armor for me.
When I am in glam in fashion,
it is very much a persona of Chappell.
I feel that, especially today, that it is
the epitome of fashion, epitome of full drag and camp.
It s so gorgeous.
[Paul] I m so happy with it.
I think that it s 830 individual leather pieces
that we ve patchworked together.
1100 hours of work.
We had 18 tailors, eight beaders and embroiderers,
and seven rhinestone artists.
[Chappell] This is the top of the mountain
that we ve been working to,
to fully realize everyone s talents, dreams, personalities.
Fashion is armor in a protective way,
but also a freeing way.
