When Ariana Grande signed on to play Galinda in the film adaptation of Wicked, we knew that when it came to her press tour style, this Good Witch would look nothing short of a bad bitch. Lo and behold, last night Grande turned out her most enchanting look to date, and for no small occasion either. In honor of her third time hosting SNL, the pop star pulled out all the stops in a pink dress from Thierry Mugler’s fall 1982 collection—a runway perhaps best known for Pat Cleveland’s literal catwalk down the catwalk.
For her monologue, Grande wore a magenta strapless dress complete with a corseted top and an extreme sweetheart neckline, which flared out into a voluminous tulip skirt that tapered off at her calves. She kept styling to a minimum, wearing a pair of fuchsia pointy-toe pumps to match her eye-catching dress.
Grande and her stylist, Mimi Cuttrell, have spared no expense for the Wicked press tour. While this Mugler dress from LILY et Cie is an undeniable standout, the self-described theater kid has turned to the likes of Balenciaga, Oscar de la Renta, and Thom Browne for her litany of show-stopping pink looks.
“I just want to make one thing clear tonight,” she said during her monologue-turned-musical number. “I’m just gonna keep it low-key.” And what, after all, could be more low-key than Ariana Grande in a piece of prize vintage?
