Catherine Zeta-Jones or Carys Douglas? When it comes to prize vintage, the Jones-Douglas clan are all-in.

Nepo baby has become something of a loaded term in recent years—but one thing that celebrity offspring have undoubtedly inherited from their famous parents is their taste in fashion. Case in point? Carys Douglas, the 22-year-old daughter of Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, who joined her father at the Icons of Culture Gala in New York last week.

For the occasion, Carys Douglas opted for an elegant black slip featuring embellishment detailing on the bodice, straight from her mother’s closet. A true vintage piece, the dress was worn by Zeta-Jones 20 years ago at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, all the way back in 2005. While her mother originally wore hers with a pair of beaded shoes, giving the look a vampy edge, Carys teamed the slip with classic black pumps and ruby drop earrings.

Carys seems to be making a habit of borrowing from her mother’s wardrobe: for her 21st birthday, she sported the pink Emanuel Ungaro slip dress that Zeta-Jones wore for the 1999 MTV Awards. Given the enduring popularity of ’90s and Noughties fashion right now, it makes sense that she would be dipping into her mother’s presumably vast archive.

Of course, Carys is by no means the first A-list progeny to rewear pieces belonging to a famous parent. For the LA premiere of Eternals back in 2021, Angelina Jolie’s daughter Zahara memorably rewore the silver Elie Saab gown that her mother had worn to the 2014 Oscars. (Be honest: if your mother were Angelina Jolie, you’d want to borrow from her closet too.) Meanwhile, for the 2023 Oscars, Salma Hayek’s daughter Valentina opted for a striking and strapless red Isaac Mizrahi dress that her mother had worn during the ’90s. It just goes to show: Sometimes keeping it in the family really does pay off.
