Couples that Birk together work together. So say David and Victoria Beckham, who coordinated bags today in Paris.
The couple arrived in the City of Light yesterday—not for the myriad of haute couture shows happening around town—but for Victoria’s Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres ceremony at the Ministry of Culture. To accept her knighthood, Victoria wore a black long-sleeve dress of her own design, while David wore a handsome charcoal double-breasted suit. Though they reverted to their more casual clothes today, they remained united by a pair of Hermès bags.
Victoria carried a shiny burgundy crocodile Birkin with palladium hardware (unclasped, of course) in the crook of her elbow. The bag’s rich, red wine hue offered a moment of contrast to her sky blue suit—a shoulder-padded blazer and wide-legged, floor-grazing trousers from her own label. In addition to her Birkin, she accessorized with her other style non-negotiables: face-obscuring shield shades and teetering platform heels.
David, for his part, stayed true to his absolutely massive Hermès Haut à Courroies Birkin, which he was seen toting yesterday. Previously, he wore it clasped tight—but today, he took a styling cue from his wife, carrying the bag with its flap flung wide open.
Clearly, David and Victoria Beckham know that you’re never too stylish to take fashion advice from your partner—especially when they’re a freshly knighted designer.
