Amidst a busy Copenhagen Fashion Week schedule, Netflix and Vogue Scandinavia came together to host an intimate dinner celebrating season four of Emily in Paris, with Lily Collins as the guest of honour. Why Copenhagen, you may ask? The actor is an honorary Dane now, after moving to the capital last year with her director husband Charlie McDowell.
While Emily Cooper is a pure maximalist, Collins—who was wearing a grey sheath dress by Danish brand Mark Domino Kenly Tan and Alaïa’s mesh ballet pumps (a Scandi-girl essential) – described how her new home has impacted her sense of style. “Everyone here is so cool, so chic,” she told Vogue Scandinavia’s Allyson Shiffman during a live Q&A, while noting the importance of being able to bike around the city in any outfit.
The actor’s favorite Nordic designers include Stine Goya and Cecilie Bahnsen (she was spotted wearing a blue confection by the designer earlier in the day), with Collins even managing to sneak some Scandi brands into her character’s wardrobe. A marbled Stine Goya coat “plays an important role in next season,” she revealed, while Danish minimalist brand By Malene Birger also makes an appearance.
In fact, Collins described how there’s more of a “pared-down, streamlined aesthetic” to Emily’s new wardrobe—although that means “maybe one last print than last season,” rather than a sudden shift in the publicist’s style. Still, there are more trouser suits (she’s “wearing the pants in her relationship with Paris”) and flat shoes, suggesting that the actor’s love of Scandi fashion may be rubbing off on her character.
One of Collins’s favorite looks from season four is the dramatic custom black-and-white striped Harris Reed look seen in the trailer, which is “one of the most arresting things that Emily has worn.” A trip to Rome, meanwhile, will see Cooper adopting a Roman Holiday-inspired look.
While her character’s wardrobe may contain a mismatch of different influences, it’s clear that Collins is very at home in Copenhagen – with the actor describing her love of rye bread, sauna and cold plunging since moving to the Danish capital. Could we also see Emily making a trip to the Nordics in the future? Watch this space.
