After eschewing her waist-length hair for a micro-bob, Zoë Kravitz is embracing French girl style in its many forms. And who better to turn to than Jane Birkin?
While there’s plenty to emulate from Birkin’s classic, breezy style, Kravitz has zeroed in on her bag. No, the actor isn’t toting around an overflowing, well-worn, sticker-covered Hermès bag, but a woven bag.
Before she adopted her namesake purse, Birkin’s bag of choice was a wicker basket. (In fact, legend has it that her basket is what caught the attention of Hermès’s Jean-Louis Dumas, who struck up a conversation with Birkin about her unorthodox accessory.)
Kravitz isn’t following in the footsteps of Birkin’s structured straw bucket basket. Instead, she’s more partial to a large, softer woven tote. Last night she carried it as a top-handle bag for dinner at Sushi Park in Los Angeles, styled with a black blazer, slouchy trousers, and a white tee; the week prior, she wore it over her shoulder out in Brooklyn, where she was dressed for an easy morning in cozy charcoal pants, a draped gray coat, and a black cloche.
As someone known for her effortless sense of style, it makes sense that Zoë Kravitz would find inspiration in Jane Birkin’s wardrobe. But with her newest accessory, she’s taking the road less traveled.
