Inside Kid Cudi and Lola Abecassis Sartore’s Wedding Weekend in the South of France

Scott Mescudi—better known as Kid Cudi—and Lola Abecassis Sartoremet caught each other’s attention in 2018 at Virgil Abloh’s first show for Louis Vuitton. “I was working behind the scenes, and Scott was walking the runway,” Lola, who was previously a designer at Louis Vuitton and is now head designer at ERL, remembers of how she met the Grammy-winning musician and actor. “Our eyes met in the chaos, and there was a silent spark. After the show, Scott walked straight up and asked for my number.”
The two had been dating for about a year when Scott proposed on December 28th, 2023, in Kyoto. “It was so romantic,” Lola remembers. “He took me around town to visit different temples, and at the end of the day, he rented a temple just for the two of us to have our own moment. He got down on his knee and proposed. It was just us watching the sunset in this beautiful Japanese garden.”
The wedding took place on June 28 at Cap Estel in Èze, near where Lola grew up in the South of France, and the couple worked with Jesse Tombs to plan their ideal wedding weekend. “It was intense—but so fun and enjoyable to get to turn our vision into our dream weekend,” Lola says. “Jesse, Alice, and the team were so supportive of our vision, and they made the process so easy and enjoyable. Wedding planning can get very stressful, but they made sure to turn all our dreams into reality. From choosing the location to building a bounce castle as an homage to our dear friend Virgil Abloh, they made it all so easy.”
They approached all of the aesthetic choices related to their wedding—from the fashion to the decor—with the hope that if they were to look back at pictures years later, they would still be happy with everything. “A beautiful location, the people we love the most, and simple decor to highlight all of that,” Lola says. “The red thread throughout the process was timelessness.”
“I’ve always been a big fan of Saint Laurent and met up with the genius and visionary Anthony Vaccarello personally with Lola to design my outfits for the wedding weekend,” Scott says. “Together, we created three looks: a mouselike pleated white shirt and tailored sateen black pants for the welcome dinner, something elegant but more laidback.” For the wedding day, Anthony came up with the idea of a double breasted black suit in grain de poudre with a sateen lapel, a white shirt, and slim tie with Chelsea boots. And then, for the after-party, they chose a crystal embroidered mousseline top with a tailored pant.
The bride was determined to work with her dear friend (and bridesman), the designer Alain Paul, who she met during her years working at Louis Vuitton under Abloh. “As soon as I got engaged, I told him I wanted him to design this dress,” Lola says. “I’ve always been Alain’s biggest fan—his vision of womenswear is so powerful, contemporary, and timeless at the same time. Alain came up with this idea of using lace, but we didn’t want to use only one as in a more traditional wedding dress. We thought of mixing them as if we would have gone to flea markets throughout the years and found vintage laces to put together a dress. We had the help of this amazing Italian mill, Pizval, who custom-made six different laces for us. Alain spent hours draping them on me, and this is how we came up with the dress. The dress was hand made in Paris by this incredible atelier, and we used 60 meters total of laces.” For the after-party, Alain created a mini version of a runway bridal look from a previous collection.
For jewelry, Ben Baller created custom wedding bands with the idea of mixing two metals—rose gold and platinum for Scott, and gold and platinum for Lola. The combination of the two metals was intended to represent the union of two people.
