Irina Shayk Brings Back the Naked Dress at the Met Gala

[crowd yelling] [camera flashing]

I think we also were talking about,

the other day, adding

just some more under here just

for like a little bit more coverage.

But we can just. Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Oh, hi! [laughs]

[Camera Woman] Hi. [laughs]

This is my dress. That s so exciting.

Wow, we have... Hi guys!

Hi, there.

We have literally six people working on that.

How many flowers you think is in this skirt?

[inaudible] 5,000.

5,000 flowers?

Don t you think?

So at first it was old.

You kind of see through, and then Jeremy was like,

we have to put a flowers right here. [laughs]

So yeah, I can t wait to see them on.

Ready.

[Jeremy Scott] I was inspired by

these flowers I ve been collecting

for over the many years at flea markets.

And they re from the twenties

and they re flowers are made of wire with beads

and, usually, I think made for decoration for like

maybe a vas or something.

And then when I started thinking about Irina s dress

and thinking about these flowers

and then making a dress of that

and having it kind of just growing from the train,

going up and then sporadically showing

flesh, and then coming back to

obscure the eye from other bits and parts.

[Man] It was full flowers

when we started full coverage flowers,

which we thought was better to strip that back a bit

and leave the drama at the train and then

like really accentuate her amazing shape.

[Designer] Then we started working on,

obviously, the measurements and creating the corset

and doing, you know, a special fitting just

for the corset to create that so it s really made,

to major for her, that s why it fits her so perfectly

and creates such a dramatic shape.

You know, all the handwork that goes into that,

it s a quite a laborious process when you re making a custom

couture evening gown for the Met Gala.

[upbeat music]

I would say the things I love about Irina.

First of all, I think she s a loyal friend.

She s funny. She s charming. She s sweet.

It s that combination.

That s why we get along so well

and have such a natural rapport.

I was literally all covered. There is hair all over her

we re just trying to get it all off before she heads out.

[laughs] Why are you laughing? Ow!

[laughs]

She sent us the dress a couple of months back

and so this is what I m thinking.

And she s all about, you know...

It s a lie.

The dress was not ready till like two weeks ago.

[laughs] But we ve been talking about ideas

and she s always loves minimal.

Like, she s just, doesn t like a lot of hair.

She doesn t like a lot of makeup.

So we thought let s, you know,

do something different. Well, our main inspiration

was Linda 90s and Harriet, Definitely.

you know, research full on Linda Evangelista, no reference,

and here we go.

And voila! We wanted a splash, you know,

I think we re going to make one. [laughs]

[fancy music]

Well, I can tell you that I have two phones in this bag,

don t ask me why [laughs]

but this bag is custom made by Ms.Keno

and it s covered with tons of flowers

and it s so cute it s matching my dress.

She s been in full bloom.

What do you say Yes.

Some flowers were unplucked

one night [Jeremy laughs]

and today it grew back. Sprouting.

You know how it goes in the garden?

Is somebody going to carry me

up the stairs or the dress? [laughs]

That s the real question.

I mean, I hope somebody can carry me up the stairs.

So, I just wanted to take a traditional tuxedo

and kind of give it a little bustle

moment, sometimes a bit of a Ah.

twirl, the little pink inside

and then a little vintage Bulgari color.

Oh really? It looks like I need it.

[laughs]

Well, I m from Russia and I m celebrating American fashion

and it feels really great.

We didn t have a TV when I was growing up

and then I remember we got,

like a black and white TV and, you know,

I think it was kind of like a mystery type...

You re covering the whole camera. It was...

Sorry [laughs]

It was kind of like mystery, you know, America, Russia.

And I will not even think I would ever make it to Met Gala

so, or live in New York.

So yeah, it s kind of all surreal.
