My goal? Respect the title we are all so proud and protective of but add a little wink and exuberance.

Two years ago, for Halloween, I dressed up as Ms. Frizzle, the kooky science teacher beloved from the Magic School Bus books (my daughter, Alice, then two, was the bus itself, in a costume made from a Spindrift box). Ms. Frizzle is known for her crazed, curly hair, clothes that reflect the things she is interested in, and her habit of taking students on unexpected, delightful journeys (a trip into the solar system or the local water plant, for example). Wouldn’t it be amazing if Vogue led readers on similar adventures?

Just weeks after my new role was announced, I watched as 16 creative directors at storied fashion houses presented their first collections. As Dior’s Jonathan Anderson told Nathan Heller in our recent profile: “How do you find newness within something which is already old? By having it dialogue with what’s happening today.” I feel a kinship with that, and with all these designers—wanting to honor the past while making the present feel totally new.

I have loved reading Vogue since I was a college student, poring over issues on the Amtrak home to New York from Providence. When people ask about my “vision,” I quickly reply that it’s 20/20 and move along, but what I will say is that it is important to me to focus on what Vogue does well. The Spring 2026 issue is full of examples. Out now is our spectacularly romantic and transporting cover shoot with Rosalía. There’s also Hamish Bowles’s moving remembrance of Valentino Garavani. Soon you’ll get to read writer Alice Gregory’s delightful quest for the perfect pillow. And see photographer Lukas Wassmann’s tribute to shoes with personality—starring our favorite staff Dogues (I am proud to say there are seven dogs in the Spring 2026 issue and one mule named Twinkie).

I sat down to write this editor’s letter on a Sunday afternoon and procrastinated by taking a walk and strolling through Bergdorf’s. In the lobby I was face-to-face with Celine’s new Smile bag. The classic silhouette and details were there, but Michael Rider’s design turned things ever so slightly upside down—in the most joyful way possible, just cheeky enough. That was my goal for the issue, which will be on sale on or around February 24th—to respect the title we are all so proud and protective of but add a little wink and exuberance. The only thing I ended up leaving Bergdorf’s with, by the way, was a smile. And I hope when people read, watch, and listen to Vogue, they will do the same.
