Selena Gomez Is So Wedded to This Dress, She Bought It in Every Color

It’s not long now until Selena Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco. Rumors have swirled that it’s a September set wedding; speaking on Jimmy Fallon yesterday evening, Gomez didn’t reveal a date, but confirmed it is happening soon. Will we see another Vivienne Westwood bride emerge, a Vera Wang creation, or something else entirely?

Well, from her recent outings, it looks like Selena Gomez is wedded to one brand in particular for both her more starry events and otherwise.

The Only Murders in the Building star, musician, and Rare Beauty founder stepped out in New York in a red, off-the-shoulder crochet mini-dress from Cult Gaia. The ‘Kaela’ dress features delicate, 3-D floral appliqué, which Gomez styled with silk red stilettos with ankle straps and diamond drop earrings. She wore her hair slicked back in a tight bun, a red mani and pedi, and of course, had on her pavé-set marquise diamond engagement ring.

But it’s not the first time she’s reached for the celebrity-favorite maker of statement-making dresses, or even the Cult Gaia Kaela dress in question. In August, Gomez wore the floral dress in an off-white version as part of her bachelorette wardrobe in Cabo. On that occasion, she paired it with a bride-to-be veil. Picking it up in tomato red was a smart move by Gomez and her stylist Erin Walsh, as red and black seems to be the Only Murders in the Building press tour color code.

Cult Gaia has been a central part of Gomez’s wardrobe rotation, with its sophisticated selection of dresses and separates that make brand events, red carpets, and more personal engagements a breeze.

Gomez wore the brand’s ‘Katara’ red knit turtleneck dress for her friend’s nuptials earlier in August. And for the launch of her first-ever brand fragrance, Rare Eau de Parfum, she wore a white, iridescent fringed halter dress by Cult Gaia, which she also paired with the brand’s Bambu sandals. The slinky, shimmering dress felt bridal, and like a possible hint at a silhouette or style to come for her own nuptials. After all, the brand just stepped into the bridal circuit this year with a full collection.

And while the likes of Margot Robbie, Amanda Seyfried, and Kylie Jenner have all shown a penchant for Cult Gaia, Gomez remains its most ardent devotee. (If you’re a bride, I’d be adding your Cult Gaia bridal picks to cart now before Sel starts her aisle walk).

Gomez has nailed a ladylike, refined, elegant aesthetic with her stylist Walsh. Across her trip to New York so far and the Only Murders in the Building press tour, they’ve kept things focused on a strict red and black color palette and super feminine silhouettes. The previous day, Gomez wore two Jacquemus mini-dresses in cherry red and black, with red Louboutins and Black Suede Studio mules respectively. Another elegant evening look from yesterday also saw Gomez in a black corset gown with a thin scarf wrapped around her neck.

Is this serious commitment to the harlequin colors a hint at something else, like a Rare Beauty drop or a new musical era? Is it a fall fashion smoke signal? Regardless, it makes dressing chic in the city easy for Selena Gomez—and saves her another matching manicure.
