Dressing up for summer in high heats and the arid Cali climate can be a bit of a tough one. Selena Gomez appears to have cracked the code.
On Sunday (July 13), the pop star and Rare Beauty founder stepped out for date night at—where else?—celebrity hotspot Giorgio Baldi with fiancé Benny Blanco. If reports are to be believed, there’s a lot of planning toward a rumored Montecito-set wedding—why not start over some red sauce? Regardless, for the occasion (eating cheesy ravioli with her love on a hot California night), Gomez opted for a sleek suit and sandal combo, giving a little bit of subversion to her usual ladylike and refined sense of style.
Gomez wore for a tailored black suit, wearing a bateau neck black top underneath a black blazer, with matching suit pants that feature an ever-so-slight kick flare. On her feet, a pair of black Proenza Schouler cable thong sandals. She accessorized with—of course—her marquise diamond engagement ring, and added the fringed black Paloma bag from one of her favorite brands, Ulla Johnson. Glam stayed tested and true, wearing her newly debuted long hair—the bangs didn’t last long—in soft natural waves, with a set of soapy pink nails, and a petal rose lip. Husband-to-be Benny Blanco kept to his own sartorial rhythm: the super producer wore a loose white and yellow floral shirt with camel colored pants, going sockless in brown leather loafers with gold hardware, and stacking gold chain necklaces.
While Gomez is far from joining the freaky shoe brigade—helmed by Katie Holmes, Chloë Sevigny, Bella Hadid, Jennifer Lawrence, et al in all sorts of toe cleavage kickers—a more interesting, bold and incongruent choice of footwear adds a bit more of a playful fashion spirit to the look.
