Hey, Vogue.
I m Dua Lipa,
and we re getting ready for the Met today.
Come on in.
[chill groovy music playing]
I love being back in New York.
Every time I just feel like the city s energy is so raw,
and feral, and infectious, and fun.
This is Katie Jane Hughes, my makeup artist.
Hi, Vogue.
Skincare for me is really important,
especially cause I travel so much,
and I m always on the go,
and especially when touring and performing,
I feel like taking care of my skin is
kind of crucial
to my every day.
But these are some things
that I just can t live without.
Eye cream,
because you never always get
as many hours of sleep as you d like.
So this makes me look alive, no?
Makes you look fresh. [Dua laughing]
It s perfect for stage.
Perfect for just a day in the city.
I think the importance of skin prep before makeup,
it s important to have the right ratio
and the right amount.
Like on stage, I am quite stingy with your skincare.
I like to just do a little bit
cause I don t wanna have to keep powdering you
in between quick change.
Because I get really sweaty.
Right. [Dua laughing]
Dua s got the most perfect skin
of any client that I might have ever done makeup for.
It s a joy.
Katie s being very nice.
It takes a small army to get me ready
for something like the Met Gala.
[Dua laughing] The glow is real.
This is similar to an eye that we do
for Radical Optimism actually,
but this is just a little bit more of a red carpet version
as opposed to like a party stage version.
[Dua] Stage look, yeah.
Perfect.
[relaxed groovy music continuing]
With Chanel, which is an amazing brand to work with,
there was like a picture that we really, really love.
Portrait of Josephine. [paper rustling]
We are really found like the perfect match
for what was our idea.
[camera clicking] Josephine was
an amazing performance.
She was like standing for rides.
We felt very close to what she did.
She was mixing like extreme feminine elements
with masculinity as well.
I mean, so we decided to put like the tailor elements
just like with a jacket.
And, of course,
Chanel tailored jacket [camera clicking]
is the best way we can ask.
You know, just like, so.
This is about silhouette,
this is about extreme silhouette.
It s like a performance happening on a carpet, you know.
So just like, that s why we decided
to have like this beautiful veil
that in some way,
just like it looks like a short dress but it s not.
[camera clicking] And the cape gives the drama.
And this is the last touch.
So we decided to pair the dress
with this beautiful crystal gloves.
[camera clicking] It s a very, very
long process.
[camera clicking] The Chanel team
has been working on this for 2000 hours.
[upbeat cool music playing]
Now we re just kind of doing [can spraying]
the finishing touches to the look.
This is Peter Lux.
Hello. My hairstylist.
And we ve gone for kinda like a modern take
on the 1920s.
Yeah, I love this.
It s fun.
I think that s something
that the Met Gala really pushes people to do
is experiment.
This is something that we do for Radical Optimism.
For the shows.
A really gorgeous gleamy eye,
and a lot of shine on the skin,
but like very flushy
and gorgeous at the same time.
We really just want it to look like Dua but
glamour. Yeah.
More exaggerated. Yeah.
I m looking forward to the party,
[can spraying] to kind of seeing everyone,
to seeing how everyone s interpreted the theme
or not.
I think it s gonna be a blast.
You never really know what s gonna happen, so.
[chill groovy music playing]
Over the years my style has just gotten a bit more,
I d like to think, a bit more refined.
The outfit kind of has two sides to it,
both of which were inspired
and celebrate Josephine Baker s style,
kind of off duty and as a performer.
And there s this wonderful quote by Josephine Baker
where she says, I love performing
and I shall perform until the day I die.
And I feel very connected to that quote of hers.
[chill groovy music continuing]
This is Chanel high jewelry,
which I m going to be wearing tonight.
I think jewelry can just be very glamorous,
but at the same time really audacious,
and powerful, and feminine.
And this particular piece
has a very chic little fact about it
as actually the diamond in the middle
is the shape of the plus fandom.
So I m very excited to wear this very, very special piece.
But one last thing, I got a spray some perfume on.
[cap clicking] [chill music continuing]
Alright, I gotta go.
[atmospheric groovy music playing]
Okay, so this is my almost final look.
There s a cape that goes with it,
but I just love this little bow detail.
Underneath is
the more of
[clothes rustling]
the performance look.
[groovy music continuing]
I love this dress so much.
It s been so much fun creating this look
with the Chanel team
and I ve loved every moment.
I can t wait to to just enjoy it now.
[camera clicking]
All right folk, thanks for getting ready with me.
I gotta get on that carpet.
Mwah.
