[elegant music]

We re getting ready for the Chanel show. [chuckles]

I m just very nervous. [chuckles]

Do you still get nervous? Actually.

Yeah, I do.

Yeah, I have my daughters coming with me.

But I m very excited for Matthieu

because this is a big moment for him.

And so to be able to celebrate him

with his first show with Chanel

and the beginning of an incredible journey together.

It s exciting, right?

[elegant music]

Nicole is wearing two pieces

from Matthieu s new collection that you ll see walk.

She s wearing one of these quintessential,

classic button-downs that I feel like

is very the House of Chanel.

And then the coolness, the edge,

and the sophistication of the most beautiful

pair of cashmere jeans.

Very chic and simple, understated in a way, but lux.

I mean, literally, I ll be wearing cashmere jeans.

I would never even have imagined cashmere jeans.

So, there we go.

[camera clicking] [elegant music]

It is Matthieu at his best.

He s an artist, he thinks about

the fabrication, the textiles.

The art behind it is really, really special and important.

Before the fitting that I had with Nicole,

I was really lucky I got to Paris a couple of days early.

I got to go into the atelier

and just kind of give some direction

and ideas that I would love to see.

That collaboration with the Chanel team

was really special and important.

And then we did a fitting, just last night.

Nicole came in, she was ready.

I showed her exactly what I fell in love with.

She put it on and she went straight to the Chanel woman.

And it was perfect, we laughed.

She wanted to try everything.

She couldn t stop trying things on.

But we landed at this magical moment.

[casual music]

I don t know how many years ago it was, [chuckles]

but when Karl and I worked together at Chanel,

and then Baz and I did the Chanel No. 5 film together,

the dress that they made for me and that Baz and CM wanted,

and it was just like a wisp of a dress.

It was pale pink, and it was so beautiful, and it floated,

and it was nothing but everything, if that makes sense.

And I think that s what the whimsy of it is,

what was so beautiful.

[upbeat music]

With doing hair, you want to be able to be able to dream

and to kind of bring all of these inspirations

and to kind of like play, and she loves to play.

We ended up cutting her bangs today,

right before the show, which is super exciting

because it s a new silhouette really for the hair.

It s really about having the hair kind of feel

broken and undone, but yet still feel expensive

and have all of that great richness,

but without being overly fussy about it, really, ultimately.

And the way that I do this specific hair,

it s actually a very cool technique,

where I just take my fingers,

I wrap the hair around my fingers,

I scrunch it, and then I use a diffuser,

and then I let it go.

And it kind of just creates these beautiful, uneven bends.

Practical Magic has been where those bangs really were,

and so this is like a combination of that,

mix like with a little bit more Jane Birkin,

like a little bit more French girl easiness.

I think Matthieu like totally inspired me

when I saw the collection and the easiness

of what she was wearing, immediately in my brain I was like,

Oh, okay. I think this will be amazing.

And so, I kind of just presented it to Nicole,

and that s how amazing Nicole is.

Nicole is like, Oh, you love that? Let s do it.

[casual music]

You can see through the years, she s allowed people

to be artists when they work with her.

And that s the special thing for me and that relationship,

she allows me to celebrate her in a way.

And her favorite line, what I love,

and this is when I fell in love with Nicole,

she always goes, Who do you want me to be today?

So in each fitting, as I go to prepare, I m thinking,

She s going to ask me that question.

And my response is, you know, whatever the moment,

the mood, the decision that I ve made.

It s been really great.

She s super collaborative,

but she s also very trustworthy when it comes to artists.

[casual music]

They asked me to become

the global ambassador for Chanel again.

It feels like coming home,

which is an amazing, amazing feeling.

I think Matthieu brings his essence to the house,

so I m so excited to be on a journey with him in this way,

and to be able to announce it to Vogue.

Oops. I think.

Pardon. Pardon. [Nicole chuckles]

Pardon. Pardon.

But that s why I m very much here,

just in support of him,

and kind of in awe of his talent.

And I love fashion, and I love couture,

and I love what he s going to do, what he is doing.

And I m just very, very grateful to be asked to be here.

[upbeat music]

We re heading out the door, so.

Okay, bye.

Bye.

[upbeat music]

[Jason] Clothes are very intimate,

and it can be very sacred moments,

and you are very vulnerable in those moments.

It becomes like this world and this lifestyle

that, you know, you get to create with someone like Nicole.
