[upbeat drum music]

[Interviewer] And you almost think it s,

like, subversive opulence.

It s the Park Avenue princess gone bad.

[banging music]

It s always gratifying when things fall into place

for an ambitious, young, creative mind.

And that s exactly what happened with Jason Wu

and his new collection today.

I collaborated with artist Cause who lent his hand,

literally, to a lot of my prints.

Cause just overlaid his hand print

over the floating petals, it s sort of a playful commentary

on how many hands has touched a garment

for it to be completed.

All that kind of thing, I just think adds

to his what seems to be the vision

of a young punky cool lady.

This was very much like the crazy uptown downtown mix

of a prissy little top with a crazy punk skirt.

Except it s punk only in a way Jason can do.

As a retailer to see a new silhouette

that you could actually wear.

That silhouette with the train on the back

was beautiful, nobody has it,

Everyone wants something new to buy. That s it.

[Jason] I wanted to take this really fifties

beautiful sculptural shapes and give them a pop spin.

And I did that through really bright colors,

Like I used sport mesh, that was mixed with chiffon,

I used these really techy nylon fabrics to create

rain coats that flow like chiffon.

I wanted this idea of tech and this idea of artificiality

that went with something that

is quite beautiful and grandiose.

It s almost like taking very, very traditional

clothing codes and twisting them.

Yea, that s especially what this collection is about

sort of subversion of couture.

All the methods are there,

But he sees things in a different way.

It was able to fit such a wide range.

It went from sporty parkas to ending with you know,

floor length ball gowns.

I find that kind of a little bit absurd,

but it seemed to work for him.

Nothing should ever be what it seems,

I want to create clothes that make people want

to have a second look.

There s this seduction part of it

that is very important.

I thought like, the inspiration this time found me.

[claps]

[loud cheers]
