Alberta Ferretti: Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

[upbeat music]

It looks like the party s over here,

but in Alberta Ferretti s new collection

it s just beginning.

[Singing] Here comes the sun.

[Tim] This has so far been a very optimistic

season in New York and in London.

In this collection, I felt the kind of

optimism of the Jazz age in a way.

[Speaking Italian]

[Voice Over] So actually when I began to work

on this collection, although I do love

the 1920 s, I ll give you that,

I was thinking more of a woman of today.

And I really wanted to transmit the energy

that each woman has within,

and that s why I worked with fabrics

such as chiffon, laser, and fringe,

which have movement and give the woman

the opportunity to transmit that lightness and energy.

[Tim] A bit of a 20s thing happened.

I know, I m kind of excited about it.

I just think that the way Alberta just did that

was sort of just the modern take on all of that.

It was sort of 20s combined with,

you know, a little bit of 70s here and there.

But it was just so fluid.

I kind of wanted to jump into those dresses.

[upbeat music]

Sort of flappery thing with the loose stockings.

I loved that, I thought that was really sexy.

[Man] I heard you use the word vibration, I think.

But it was the fringes, obviously, they vibrate.

[speaking Italian]

[Voice Over] One of the reasons that I chose fringe,

most importantly, is that when a woman puts it on,

it moves according to her movements,

according to her moods, according to the pose

that she takes, and the attitude that she has.

And that is what I was trying to accomplish,

utilizing these fabrics that move on their own.

[upbeat music]

You ve been responsibly for the new thready boutique in LA

What was your brief?

Elegance, femininity, sensual.

Yeah, feminine was the buzzword.

I mean, architecturally those clothes have,

thinking about all the fringeing.

Well the thing is that the architecture

really has to compliment the place,

so you must n t sort of create a battle with the clays.

So the materials that we sort of selected to be

part of the LA store really are very, sort of,

hard materials that really work well with the

softness, and the sheens of the garments.

[Man] The city being threaded then.

I know that it will be.

I know that, come November,

I think she ll probably take over Los Angeles.

She s just amazing.

She s the most elegant woman in and of herself.

So, I think it comes out in her clothes.
