Donna Karan: Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

Donna Karen has called her latest collection

Liquid Assets,

and Mother Nature has obliged with a backdrop.

The look today is based on Lauren Hutton, American Gigolo.

The way she just looks so gorgeous,

that kind of wonderful taupe-y palette of colors

that she wears.

It s all about supernature.

It s all about this very, very glamorous,

very, very rich, very well maintained woman.

This is a kind of woman that walks into a room,

everyone notices.

I sit by the water,

and I don t think of anything more beautiful

than watching the water and the sand and the rocks.

And I think that s what the collection was about.

It was the contrast with how we live today.

It s the masculine and the feminine.

To rebirth the strength of the woman,

and allow her to be liquid and soft at the same time.

[Interviewer] Donna s show was

the reiteration of a couple of ideas.

But to what effect?

I thought it was really sexy and sophisticated.

I mean having gone to 400 shows this week,

somehow the ones that are womanly

are the ones that appeal to me.

Maybe it s my age group.

I thought it was hot.

The clothes are just so beautiful,

made of the best fabrics, amazing satin.

With it s just really beautiful lightweight in it.

And light just reflects off it really, really beautifully.

What I love about Donna and this collection is part of it,

she just created this world of powerful women

who can either wear a suit

or can wear a little lingerie inspired gown.

But they totally mean business

and you re not gonna mess with them.

Whether they re barbarians or the most civilized women,

it s all good.

[Interviewer] Do you think the changes you made in fashion

have made girls feel freer?

I think what I ve allowed

and always celebrated is women.

And woman is so busy now, and she s constantly on the go.

So she just needs to just throw it on,

be prepared, ready to go from day to evening.

And I think that s the challenge we have as designers today.

To pay respect to women of today.
