Giorgio Armani: Spring 2009 Ready-to-Wear

I m intrigued by the evolution of Giorgio Armani

as a designer.

Every collection I come to seems to reveal

another facet of his personality.

We wanted more of a feeling

rather than an actual look.

Kind of hot

and a bit sweaty

but really kinda like a more sensual woman.

[Interviewer] How was the summer on the boat?

The trip down to Greece?

[foreign language]

[Translator] It has definitely helped me to clear my mind.

Because I went on holiday,

I came back

and then I took things away

that weren t necessary.

That were a little bit too heavy,

that took away from that soft lightness

that you ll see in the collection today.

[runway music]

I thought it was one of the most beautiful collections

he s ever done.

It s kinda quiet luxury.

Not screaming at you.

Just simple, feminine,

beautiful silhouette,

beautiful color palettes.

[Interviewer] We were talking about how Pantelleria

influences you in your designing.

[foreign language]

[Translator] Yes, Pantelleria does influence me,

but it s not only about Pantelleria, it s about the

Mediterranean in general.

It s obviously about the sea, the sun and vacation.

It was a collection that showed all of his

kind of strengths actually.

I really liked all the different jacket shapes.

I thought it was so pretty as well actually

and quite soft.

The putty colors, the beiges, the grays,

it was so perfect

really for him.

[Interviewer] Why do you think your collections

are getting more sensual as you get older?

[foreign language]

[Translator] I don t have to do something that s

spectacular that necessarily has to be

only for the cover of a magazine.

But I take into consideration even more my client

and what she needs.

And that s what I put out on the runway.

It being even more sensual.

I always ask him to do something more soothing

for a woman.

Not just the business look and so on.

And I think he s listening to his friends taste and demands.

[Interviewer] Do you think his clothes are getting more

sensual as he gets older.

Yeah, possibly.

[foreign language]

Or maybe I am?

One of the other anyway.

He feels very strongly that what he does

is what he does

and it s his world is just shifted in small directions

and not really to,

to do anything different.

And in a funny way with so many designers,

you kind of appreciate somebody that just does stick to

what they do.

He s just so much better,

when he stays to his core principal

of utter simplicity.
