Christian Dior: Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear
Released on 10/03/2009
[upbeat music]
[Interviewer] Were you at all surprised by that?
[Bruce Willis] No, not at all.
Appropriately cinematic?
Very dramatic.
[upbeat music]
[John Galliano] I was inspired by the genre of film noir.
And also one of Dior s greatest,
most famous clients, Lauren Bacall.
The pages that I saw of Lauren, Humphrey Bogart,
and Avenue Montaigne greatly inspired me.
[Tim Blanks] John Galliano and film noir.
The perfect marriage.
[faint screams]
[Michael Howells] It s all about drama. Making a mini film
in fifteen minutes.
We sort of decided that we re inside the base
of the Statue of Liberty, taking that whole idea
of figures lost in a large building.
You see the guy with a gun, is he the bad guy,
but no, she s the femme fatale. He s the good guy.
[Interviewer] Bring back the slip.
[laughs]
[Peter Marino] I like the slip with the black line,
it was so good.
[Stephen Jones] Underwear is outerwear,
what does that say about the times?
Topsy-turvy, all these pieces of fashion
have been thrown up, and they re all falling down
in a different way at the moment.
[Interviewer] That was the perfect Dior collection
for you.
[Dita Von Teese] Definitely. Most of them are.
When he looks to the fifties era of Dior,
you really notice it and enjoy it.
Black Dahlia is surely your style icon .
Absolutely. But I d like to remain in one piece, though.
[John Galliano] I introduce Le Slip Ilusion,
illusion slip, they had no underwear on at all,
it was all cut, and the linings,
it was an illusion, like film noir.
[Stephen Jones] The foundations of Dior s new look,
he constructed all those over really unusual undergarments,
all the lingerie shapes that you saw were inspired
by the new look from 1947.
[Interviewer] What does the art of transparency
evoke for you?
[John Galliano] It s very Galliano, it s something
that I ve always found inspirational,
it s the lightness, the fragility,
whether it s see-through, x-ray,
none of that.
[Interviewer] It s two guys sitting around
talking about girdles.
[laughs]
[applause]
