Stella McCartney: Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear

[upbeat music]

The great, big yes on the backdrop,

perfectly encapsulates the upbeat mood

of Stella McCartney s latest show.

[laughs]

Did it work?

[laughs]

[upbeat music]

In this time period right now,

she really wanted to just say something

that was very unambiguously positive.

Yes. [laughs]

I mean, it can be banal but when you apply it

to something specific, it has power.

[upbeat music]

[energetic music]

[Tim] This is the only you re doing?

Yes.

When Stella asked me to do the show,

I didn t have a second thought about it.

She was one of the women who empowered me,

with her beliefs, no, I m not gonna use leather,

I m not gonna use fur and it s really great

when someone takes thinks of that.

No, there s been a lot of kind of sternness on the runway

and I just wanted to kind of disperse all of that

and just bring a summer energy.

I feel like I want to let women to sort of feel happy again.

There s something about Stella that I find very moving

and she makes beautiful clothes that I can identify with

because I identify with her.

[upbeat music]

This was more exuberant.

I think that she really felt that in this all white space

that this backdrop would really set the tone

for the clothes.

I m absolutely bowled over.

I mean, I think it s one of her strongest shows yet.

[Tim] Lots of new volume and some stuff.

That new kind of pleat, with all that kind of froufrou.

[Tim] I thought the frills were the best actually.

That s felt like something new for you.

Yeah, I mean I knew from day one,

working on the collection, I was like I want bold color,

I want energy, I m not afraid to just really

put it down the runway.

For me, I m sort of you know, I m a lot less over the top

than most designers so for me, that was kind of,

quite a big deal.

[upbeat music]

And knew she had those frills in it.

Ah ha, I ll tell you, she s got frills and more in her.

A friend who sews a lot says she can t figure out

how she made them.

She s just a very clever designer.

For next summer, those pleated dresses are gonna be hot!
