Patrik Ervell: Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear

This is Patrik Ervell s video debut on Style.Com

and we really couldn t wish for a better collection

to launch him with than this one.

Because all his signatures are here,

the military, the work wear, the sports wear,

the poignant yearnings of youth,

really made for one of his strongest shows to-date.

I always get a kick out of working with outer-wear.

I think I can experiment the most

and do the most things outside the box.

This season I was thinking about

this sort of strange phenomenon of outdoor clothing now,

being the most over the top, techie,

but it s meant for like fields and streams and mountains.

That extreme techie-wilderness moment ends up feeling alien,

it ends up feeling not really of this world.

He grabbed a lot of the [mumbles] influences

that he loves, he loves collegiate,

he loves high-tech materials,

he loves anything having to do with varsity.

But he made it completely modern.

And he didn t make it look retro,

which is always his strength.

He gives a sort of European perspective

of street youth for that very urban kind of guy.

He has something that reminds me of the early 90s.

Obviously with the bomber jacket,

and the shiny fabrics, and the nylon, and the parkas.

These kids wanna wear that now.

I wanna wear that now.

It s easy to talk about the military

and clubs, and uniforms, but I think what Patrik does

is really dig underneath that to the humanity

that exists in the bodies of people

that go into those worlds before.

[Interviewer] Your interest in military clothing and so on

and the way that it s been carried through,

season after season.

So when you look at what you ve done here, do you feel,

Oh yes, this is the point I ve been trying to reach?

I always think that my shows,

they have their own kind of dialogue

within my project, I guess.

It s not one season this and one season that,

it s one ongoing narrative.

This is a guy that s been doing this

for about five or six years now,

and little by little each season I think

it gets more refined, it gets more iconic in a way.

This collection was really one of his absolute best.
