I don t think Tom Brown has ever done a show

as referenced as this one.

He s inspired by the Bow House dignitary Oscar Schlemmer.

Now, he wouldn t necessarily agree with this,

but I think there s a real statement

about the hypnotic power of fashion

in this show.

It was a 1920 s homage to Oscar Schlemmer

in my way of mixing American preppy clothes

and keeping it as conceptual as he would.

[Tim] How did that come to you

as a way to show this particularly collection?

It really came from the guys show.

The slinky that the guys were in

reminded me of Oscar Schlemmer, the artist,

and I wanted to take it even further with the girls.

I think they re very fun, but I think you have

to look closely at the clothes

and you will see that they re actually beautifully made

and they will be fantastic pieces for maybe

a courageous woman.

Everything has become so much about

speed, and practicality, and usefulness,

and it s nice to see somebody that says no.

No, it s just about beauty.

Looks like couture.

We re not gonna see a woman walking down the street,

although I would love in an ideal world

they d be walking down the streets in those outfits.

I d love to see someone walking they re skirt like that.

I thought that was so incredible.

[Tim] It s hard to judge that unconventional fashion

terms, isn t it?

But what fashion should be is

taking a jump off the cliff

and I think Tom is one of

few on one hand who can do that in New York

and I think it s really daring.

What these swirling platforms

and the girls being turned around,

maybe he s going to hypnotize us back into beauty,

I hope so.

[Tim] Your shows are getting more and more

complex and conceptional and they re verging

more and more on art.

I m challenging myself.

I love making clothes, but the concept

is equally as important as the clothes.
