I ve only worn Prabal just a couple times

but every time I have it s been

a very big fashion moment for me.

Why am I standing on a broken down old pier

When I m just about to enter

Prabal Gurung s ethereal fashion world?

Well a pier is a point of embarkation.

And I think we re just about to embark

on a journey with Prabal.

[Gurung] There s several inspirations. One of them was

Anish Kapoor, another artist who s

from India but based in London.

And if you look at his work there s this intense use of red.

The red feathers and the white feathers

mixed in with ruffles. The layering was really rich.

The feathers were my favorite part. I ve never met

an ostrich feather I didn t like.

[Woman] That s so true! She does!

[Man] The clothes are white and feathery

and they seem very pure. And then there s this violent red

that kind of slashes through them.

There s a real undertone there.

[Steinfeld] It s so feminine and so pretty

and simple, yet very strong.

I think that show is actually quite dark.

Considering the vast majority of it

was made of white garments, the story it was telling

was something that was quite foreboding,

a little bit sinister.

[Harper] There s a contrapunto between the edginess

and the girliness. Because there s a lot of flounce

and feather and girly, but there s always

this edge that cuts through it.

And I think that s what makes it interesting.

[Gurung] When I looked at Anish Kapoor s work

it reminded me of the bridal women in Nepal and in India,

that part of the world.

Especially when the husbands die, how they mourn.

For the color palette, I thought of exploring

the colors of the widows.

That was the starting point for it.

But I didn t want to talk about it, simply because

I didn t want it to sound too grim.

[Fury] The thing that really struck me was

how beautiful everything looked. There s this idea

of having edge and sinister vibes, but Prabal Gurung s

customer isn t really going to wear that sort of stuff.

So he took it his way and made it quite

decorative and feminine. It s kind of what he does.
