Rodarte: Spring 2013 Ready-to-Wear

[Tim] Where do those clothes take you?

To a galaxy far far away.

Yeah.

[Tim] Good answer!

I was gonna say Mars.

[rock music]

The Rodarte girls recently spent

some months designing an opera,

an experience clearly impacted on the new collection.

I thought there was a new sense of streamlined

theatricality and movement in their clothes.

We wanted to play with this idea of medieval

and fantasy role-playing games

so we could play with different colors and

different textures and movement

and that s what the show is about.

It looked like they d been influenced

by their own costume designing

which sort of had this sense of fantasy

and craftsmanship and very romantic

and a little King Arthur.

Their whole life is a reference to art,

nature, travel, photography,

they re more about lifestyle than they are

about fashion in a sense.

This collection has one strong theme

and all these fabrics that they use

one on top of the other

and the different prints

is very very rich.

[Tim] And the fringe biker jacket?

Fringe is cool.

I think fringe might be a little too cool for me,

but I love the mix of textiles it s amazing.

There s an interesting thing about being based

in classic ideas of silhouette

but then playing with them and re-inventing them

and making people imagine something different.

But it s still routed in things that are very beautiful.

The one thing that they ve always had from the get go

is a dreamlike magical quality.

The dream is always changing.

They re one of the most creative talents

that we have in this industry

and I love to see how they evolve

I love those girls.
